Purpose
Support the Director, Latin America Head of Regulatory Relations to lead the development, execution, and coordination of the regulatory relationship strategy in Latin America and the Caribbean (“LatAm”) to strengthen the Bank’s ability to understand and address regulatory expectations, enhance regulatory transparency, and guide the development and execution of business and risk management strategy. The role also provides regulatory response oversight and review of key supervisory and regulatory matters to Senior Management and committees, as appropriate. The position support governance activities related to the Global Regulatory Relations Pillar such as GRR policy and operating procedure.
Responsibilities
- Providing oversight to IB countries for regulatory examinations, continuous monitoring and related interactions to identify regulatory trends, across the IB region.
- Collaborating with IB Compliance to provide guidance on regulatory matters and supporting their regulatory interactions
- Developing presentations for senior management meetings with regulatory stakeholders and regular reporting on regulatory matters to senior bank stakeholders and committees
- Identifying emerging risks arising from interactions with IB regulators and escalating them as appropriate.
- Provide regulatory insights to support CRCA, Compliance and AML program which will generate calls to action to promote efficiencies and controls to maintain the bank safe and in compliance with policies, procedures and regulations.
- Create briefing notes to facilitate senior management meetings with LatAm regulatory authorities.
- Lead initiatives to strengthen regulatory practices and cultivate collaborative relationships with country-level regulatory leads.
- Supports the Director in the design and implementation of regulatory relations framework for Non-OSFI Canadian key regulators.
- Works with various teams (IB Compliance, AML Compliance, Businesses, Control Functions, Group Technology and Operations, BSA/AML, Legal) to prepare the Bank for new regulatory changes.
- Plan and coordinate the implementation of Global Regulatory Relations policies and procedures across IB countries.
- Coordinate Design and execute of Global Regulatory Relations training including the use of the GRR Power App (Share point tool).
- Perform related and additional complementary tasks, aligned with the objectives, values, standards and ethics of the organization; ensuring the integrity and confidentiality in the handling of resources and information (electronic and physical); to contribute to maintaining a work environment where work is enjoyable, promoting the values of the organization and the commitment and satisfaction of employees.
- Understand the Bank's risk culture and how risk appetite should be considered in daily activities and decisions.
- Create an environment where you conduct effective and efficient operations, while ensuring the adequacy, compliance and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls in order to meet obligations aimed at reducing operational risk, regulatory non-compliance risk, money laundering and terrorist financing risk and conduct risk, including responsibilities established under the Operational Risk Management Framework, the Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, the International Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Prevention Manual and the Scotiabank Code of Conduct.

Education/Experience
- Knowledge of banking regulations, products & services, technology and operations post-secondary education with relevant experience in the financial services industry, preferably within regulatory compliance, audit or risk management function.
- Fluent in English and Spanish is critical for the role.
- Ability to operate in a high performing, flexible and small team environment.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, results orientation and data driven approach in decision making.
- Experience with providing insights and interacting with the business lines.
- Experience using analytics to identify areas of risk and opportunities for improvement.
