Senior Manager, Investment Strategy



Contribute to the overall success of Scotia Wealth Management's Investment Advisory & Solutions (IA&S) department, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensure all activities comply with governing regulations and internal policies and procedures. Responsible for providing timely investment advice to Scotia Wealth Management investment advisors, with a focus on the equity and fixed income asset classes, and assisting with asset allocation and portfolio strategy decisions.



The Senior Manager, Investment Strategy will be responsible for supporting IA&S, with a focus on investment strategy, asset allocation, and macroeconomic analysis. Our team-based approach may require the candidate to write and review IA&S commentaries, conduct independent research, assist with proposals and presentations, and support the Global Portfolio Advisory Group (GPAG). Accordingly, required skills include a strong knowledge of capital markets, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Applicants with demonstrated organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced, high energy environment are preferred.



    • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
    • Work closely with the Investment Strategy team to provide timely and conclusive tactical asset allocation recommendations based on quantitative and qualitative macroeconomic research, which will be used to support new or existing investment strategies/ideas.
    • Support the management of equity and/or fixed income guided portfolios by monitoring existing positions and ensuring they adhere to GPAG’s selection criteria.
    • Design, build and maintain models used in the equity and/or fixed income security selection process(es) and assist in fulfilling portfolio performance reporting requirements.
    • Provide regular support to Scotia Wealth Management investment advisors by conducting portfolio reviews for existing clients and creating portfolio proposals to attract new business.
    • Respond to ad hoc advisor requests with qualified and value-added ideas and opinions. Educate advisors about IA&S’ product/service offering through branch visits, conference calls, and client presentations.
    • Coordinate with Scotia Wealth Management partners to ensure consistency of messaging and to leverage appropriate expertise.
    • Contribute to IA&S’ and GPAG’s effectiveness:
      • Proactively share best practices and learning with peers and partners.
      • Build effective working relationships across the team and with various business line and corporate function contacts.
      • Maintain a high level of customer service.
      • Facilitate a culture of open and honest communication.
      • Encourage the generation of new ideas and approaches.
      • Actively share knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team members.
      • Understand the bank’s risk appetite and risk culture, and consider both in carrying out day-to-day activities and decisions.
      • Contribute to the effective and efficient operation of IA&S and GPAG while ensuring the adequacy of, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, anti-money laundering/anti-terrorist financing (AML/ATF) risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
      • Champion a high performance environment.


Education and experience:

    • 5 – 10 years of relevant investment management or research experience.
    • University degree in related field and completion of the CFA program. CFA charter would be an asset.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Excellent presentation skills combined with effective relationship-building abilities.
    • Work independently, manage a high volume of work, and meet tight deadlines.
    • Work effectively within a cross-functional team comprising individuals with varying skills/competencies.
    • Strong project management skills and willingness to take initiative.
    • Strong conceptual abilities and excellent perseverance to solve problems and adapt solutions for a wide range of advisors and clients.
    • Strong judgement, decision-making skills, and attention to detail.
    • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of applications (particularly Excel).
    • Proficiency with Python or other programming languages is desirable.
