Contribute to the overall success of Scotia Wealth Management's Investment Advisory & Solutions (IA&S) department, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensure all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Responsible for providing timely investment advice, direction and value-added ideas to Scotia Wealth Management investment advisors with a focus on equity and/or fixed income asset classes, assisting with asset allocation and portfolio strategy decisions in relation to these products.



Senior Manager, Investment Strategy will be responsible for providing support to IA&S, with a focus on investment strategy, asset allocation, and macroeconomic analysis. Our team-based approach may require the candidate to write and review IA&S commentaries, conduct independent research, assist with proposals and presentations, and provide support the Portfolio Advisory Group. Accordingly, required skills include a strong knowledge of capital markets, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team. Applicants with demonstrated organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced, high energy environment are preferred.



    • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
    • Work closely with the Investment Strategy team to provide timely and conclusive tactical asset allocation recommendations based on quantitate and qualitative macroeconomic research, which will be used to supporting new or existing investment strategies/ideas. 
    • Support the management of equity and/or fixed income Guided Portfolios by monitoring existing positions and ensuring they  adhere to Portfolio Advisory Group’s selection criteria
    • Design, build and maintain models used in the equity and/or fixed income security selection process(es) and assist in fulfilling portfolio performance reporting requirements.
    • Provide regular support to Scotia Wealth Management investment advisors by conducting client portfolio reviews for existing individual client account, and in the creation of portfolio proposals to attract new business.
    • Respond to ad hoc advisor requests with qualified and value-added ideas and opinions. Educate advisors about the product/service offering, through branch visits, conference calls, and client presentations.
    • Coordinate with internal partners in Scotia Wealth Management to ensure consistency of messaging and to leverage appropriate expertise.
    • Contribute to the effective functioning of the IA&S department and the Portfolio Advisory Group:
    • Proactively share best practices and learning with peers and partners.
    • Build effective working relationships across the team and with various business line and corporate function contacts.
    • Maintain a high level of customer service.
    • Facilitate a culture of open and honest communication.
    • Encourage the generation of new ideas and approaches.
    • Actively share knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team members.
    • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
    • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
    • Champion a high performance environment.



    • Perform responsibilities in accordance with established policies and procedures requiring continual review, innovative modifications and realignment to meet desired expectations.
    • Work within defined guidelines. Self-motivated and independent thinker to lead and participate in development and recommendation of strategies with discretion as required.
    • Ability to provide strong support to multiple/diverse initiatives nationally to a minimum of 100 advisors across each region.


Education and experience:

    • 5 – 10 years of relevant investment management or research experience.
    • University degree in related field and the completion of the CFA program.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, combined with effective relationship-building abilities.
    • Ability to work independently, manage a high level of volume, and meet tight deadlines.
    • Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team environment that can include varying skills/competencies.
    • Strong project management skills and willingness to take initiative.
    • Strong conceptual abilities and excellent perseverance to solve problems and adapt solutions across a wide range of advisors and client segments.
    • Must have strong judgement and decision-making skills, with attention to detail.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft suite (excel), Python or other programming languages are desired.
    • CFA would be an asset
