Purpose

 

This role is essential to the overall success of the Global Transaction Banking (GTB) Team and is responsible for promoting and protecting the Scotiabank brand. The position plays a vital part in advancing the Bank’s strategic priorities by leveraging in-depth business knowledge to effectively support the internal and external positioning needs of business line leaders and segments. It ensures that all communications plans are delivered in full compliance with applicable regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures. Specifically, the Senior Manager collaborates with business lines, corporate functions worldwide, and Corporate Affairs Teams to support the development and execution of GTB business initiatives and programs. This position provides comprehensive communications support for GTB’s strategic plans and tactical services, facilitates stakeholder approvals, and maintains strong, ongoing partnership relationships with key stakeholders.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Maintain exceptional client service standards within the GTB Communications team and with key corporate partners by delivering expert guidance and support.
  • Offer strategic recommendations and value-added support across teams to strengthen our role as trusted partners to leaders and communications teams throughout the Bank.
  • Coordinate messaging and processes to ensure consistent communication across all GTB priority markets.
  • Stay well-versed in Bank policies and procedures, advising the team on proper protocols for various scenarios to ensure compliance and best practice.
  • Design and implement communication plans and tactics that promote greater understanding of the Bank’s strategy and priorities among stakeholders.
  • Identify and recommend the most effective communication channels, media outlets, and tools to ensure key messages, actions, and outcomes are clearly communicated and understood.
  • Draft, review, and edit a broad range of communications materials—including press releases, scripts, and executive remarks—to maintain high standards and clarity.
  • Develop and execute integrated communications plans that align with business objectives and strengthen stakeholder engagement.
  • Foster productive relationships with internal clients, public relations agencies, and international media to deliver timely, high-quality, and cost-effective communications across the Bank.
  • Prepare flawless communications materials, ensuring strict confidentiality for all Business Lines and Corporate Functions as needed by:
    • Meeting with teams to assess internal and external communication needs,
    • Delivering the highest-quality drafts for business partner review,
    • Developing sensitive content with discretion,
    • Overseeing translation services as required, and
    • Collaborating with Global Communications partners in Canada and internationally to distribute communications through the most relevant internal and external channels.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness and high performance of the Global Corporate Affairs team.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in all daily activities and decision-making.
  • Create an environment that supports efficient operations in line with Scotiabank’s Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles, ensuring effective business controls to meet operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk obligations.
  • Build and lead a high-performance team by implementing people strategies that attract, retain, develop, and motivate employees—fostering an inclusive culture, communicating vision and strategy, and managing succession and development planning through a coaching mindset.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

 

  • Degree in Communications, Journalism, Bachelors of Arts and or Economics, International Relations, International Business, Business Administration or equivalent experience.
  • Master's degree or MBA an asset.
  • 8- 10 years’ experience in corporate communications, Marketing Communications, Financial Communications and/or Public Relations.
  • Proven strategic planning skills and exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate and drive audience engagement. 
  • Knowledge and experience communicating via print, web, visual media and emerging communication platforms.
  • Social media with demonstrated experience leveraging the latest communication vehicles to effectively communicate with key audiences.
  • Working knowledge of financials and experience in the financial services industry including digital banking an asset.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, critical thinking and relationship management skills.
