This position is responsible for the management of the Bank’s DC pension and Employee Share Plans globally, including managing financials, vendor management, strategy, compliance, governance, communication & education and involvement in budgeting and expense management of external vendors. The major areas of exposure are Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Caribbean. This position is also the lead on M&A activity for the HR team

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
  • Manage the review of pension policies and policy decisions, including research of competitive market information to assist in policy decisions and analyzing implications of policy changes. Manages the preparation of presentation material on plan decisions and strategy for management
  • Manage the various phases of new plan launches and/or implementation of program modifications. Activities include project documentation process, socialization, external provider negotiation, and positioning programs for execution
  • Play a key role in regular reviews of current programs and recommend improvements or new requirements for global DC and Share ownership plans
  • Prepare materials for pension fiduciary and/or governance committee meetings. This includes the Board, the Human Capital Committee, CAP Committee, Qualified Pension Committee, UK GPPP committee and others. Participate in these committees including presentation of materials
  • Manage plan reporting and regulatory filing requirements
  • Manage vendor relationships
  • Assist with the direction and management of the Bank’s outside suppliers such as actuaries, consultants, insurance carriers and outsource providers to ensure appropriate relationships are developed to obtain optimum service
  • Mentor and coach junior staff on the team and assist with role and career development
  • Coordinate with DB Pension colleagues on common deliverables and responsibilities
  • Advise on HR strategies, programs, policies and practices to support business goals through due diligence of any integration, partnership, or divestiture being considered by the business line
  • Identify and assesses major implications in business strategies, develops solutions and tactics to address them during all M&A work
  • Provide expertise on all aspects of M&A, and advises on HR best practices
  • Collaborate with business leaders and partners across HR to complete M&A activities, transferring expertise across partner groups
  • Maintain a strong focus on deepening relationships with internal and external partners
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We'd love to work with you if you have:  

  • 7+ years of relevant experience working with financial markets and DC pension plans.
  • Experience working with recordkeeping vendors an asset.
  • Employee share ownership plan oversight and administration experience an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of DC governance, investments, legislation, member behaviour analysis, retirement income adequacy, employee education and communication strategies.
  • Experience in mergers and acquisitions from an HR perspective a strong asset.
  • Pursuing or completion of CHRL, CEBS or CIM designation an asset.
  • Post-secondary degree in HR, Business or a related field
  • A combination of analytical and creative thinking skills, in order to assist with both the policy/plan design and communication aspects of the position.
  • Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills in order to clearly summarize and effectively share complex information with various audiences.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, including the ability to build close working relationships with a large number of individuals across the Bank and among external advisors and regulators
