The Role

The Senior Manager leads the research, development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures for the Bank, as directed by the Director or Vice President. The role includes assessing the impact of accounting standards and proposed changes, resolving complex accounting issues, and providing advisory support on specialized transactions as required. The Senior Manager maintains deep expertise in assigned areas of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and stays current on broader IFRS developments affecting the Bank.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Lead Bank-wide readiness for new and emerging accounting standards by assessing impacts, coordinating stakeholders, and supporting implementation activities. Research accounting implications for specific strategies and transactions and provide practical alternatives and recommendations to enable compliance. Partner with cross-functional teams to clarify roles, responsibilities, and timelines for implementation.
  • Keep senior management informed of the accounting implications of new and amended IFRS standards, including key judgments, optionality, and emerging issues. Develop well-supported recommendations that reflect the Bank’s priorities and consider impacts across the Bank and business lines, including potential implications for performance, reporting, and business practices.
  • Provide accounting advisory support for specialized and complex proposed transactions, including clear documentation of key terms, relevant IFRS considerations, alternatives, and recommendations. Deliver high-quality analyses within time-sensitive timelines to support business decision-making and governance.
  • Maintain and update the accounting monographs (IFRS policies) and implementation guidance on a timely basis, including developing and delivering training and communications on key changes and their implications.
  • Monitor, interpret, and contribute to the development of new and proposed accounting standards, including related disclosure considerations for the financial statements and MD&A. Support responses to standards and guidance issued by standard setters and regulators (e.g., IASB, OSFI and other relevant bodies). Participate in industry forums (e.g., CBA sub-committees) and working groups as required.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:

 

  • CPA designation required, with 5+ years of progressive experience in financial services and exposure to complex accounting issues.
  • University degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
  • Strong IFRS technical accounting expertise, with the ability to produce clear, well-supported documentation to substantiate accounting conclusions.
  • Experience in financial reporting, accounting policy, and/or public practice, with demonstrated ability to research and resolve a broad range of accounting issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarize complex topics for senior stakeholders.
  • Strong financial acumen, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with sound professional judgment.
  • Proficiency in AI-assisted productivity tools (e.g. Microsoft Copilot) and Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and the ability to quickly learn internal reporting tools to extract, analyze, and present information from the Bank’s accounting records.
