Purpose:
This role supports the Director, GBM Taxation & Tax Controversy (“GBM Taxation & TC”), in tax audit, disputes, and planning matters for Global Banking and Markets (GBM) and Treasury.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Assist Director, GBM Taxation & TC, on GBM related tax audits, disputes, and planning in gathering data, reviewing or preparing responses to audit queries and proposed adjustments received from Canadian and foreign tax authorities.
- Assist Director, GBM Taxation & TC in providing timely and accurate tax risk assessment and analyses in respect of GBM business line activities and initiatives, including identification of tax issues consistent with the Bank’s reputational risk appetite.
- Maintain a working knowledge of tax rules of Canada and relevant jurisdictions as relevant to GBM activities, as well as tax anti-avoidance rules of those jurisdictions. Monitoring impact of major legislative changes in foreign jurisdictions as they relate to these businesses.
- Provide approval on behalf of GBM Taxation of Canadian and foreign income and capital tax implications of proposed GBM transactions (including advice on private equity investments, structured products, and ISDA documentation) or, where required based on judgment, escalating to Director, GBM Taxation & TC, documenting any conditions and ensuring all conditions are met.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
- Tax lawyer or CPA, CA with a minimum of 4 years Canadian Taxation and related experience.
- Completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Course Parts 1 and 2, with Part 3 completed or to be completed within approximately 12 months.
- Strong presentation and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, conceptualization, and strategic thinking skills.
- Ability to communicate technical and analytical concepts to a broad range of stakeholders.
- Self-motivated individual with excellent organizational and time management skills.
