Global Banking and Markets


Global Banking & Markets provides a full range of investment banking, credit and risk management products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of our clients. Our products include debt and equity financing, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, fixed income products, derivatives, energy, foreign exchange, and precious & metals. We also cross-sell the full range of wholesale products and services offered by the Scotiabank Group.




Oversees GWO’s Financial Management Governance mandate as part of Business & Performance Management.  Leads GWO’s expense planning, forecasting and reporting processes, ensuring financials are reported accurately and in a timely manner, challenging anomalies in expense trends and ensuring quarterly allocations are reported accurately. Providing transparency into GWO’s full cost base and related business line allocations through collaborative efforts with Utility heads and Business Finance partners. Ensures all activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.




  • Leads the delivery of the monthly management reporting for the utilities within GWO. This encompasses assisting with the reporting and analysis of expense variances and business line allocations. This is accomplished through engagement with the GWO senior management leaders, Corporate Functions Finance team and other key business partners for better understanding of key variances and underlying business issues.  This is followed by the preparation and delivery of result presentations on a monthly basis to the senior management team.
  • Supports the quarterly Business review meetings in preparation of presentations on periodic comparatives with supporting documentation of substantial changes in allocations.
  • Facilitates the quarterly forecast review and annual operating plan. This is accomplished through information gathering exercise, challenging, consolidating and reflecting approved expense projections for each utility including staffing related expenses, clearing/custody and technology charges, in the enterprise financial reporting.
  • Responsible for the performance of the quarterly business allocation adjustments of volume driven expenses such as clearing and technology allocations. This entails gathering relevant information on trade volumes, documentation of information in support of quarterly updates and calculation of adjusted business allocations.
  • Leads the quarterly consolidation and reporting of the GWO Internal Control over Financial Reporting (ICOFR) certification to the SOX Office and supporting management queries pertaining to this as required.
  • Provides oversight on matters pertaining to Financial Management such as Transfer Pricing, realized cost savings calculations in collaboration with Global Procurement Services, queries relating to FTE movements, SOX issues, capturing costs of new initiatives etc. as well as staff supervision.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values and its Code of Conduct while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • CPA and/ or equivalent Finance related qualification
  • Possess a high degree of initiative, commitment, be results oriented and highly self-motivated.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work/ lead effectively and diplomatically in a team environment with peers and superiors across organizational lines.
  • A good understanding of back-office functions / services provided by GWO.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and deal with multiple issues.
  • Sound judgement, leadership, and analytical skills.
  • Possess a high degree of initiative, commitment, be results oriented and highly self-motivated.
  • The incumbent must be able to effectively communicate concepts and requirements to key stakeholders.
