As part of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Manager, Expense Policy Management, Global Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), will own the end-to-end management of enterprise-wide expense policies, as well as ad hoc expense-focused initiatives. They will play a critical role in the Global Finance organization by supporting expense management through detailed financial analysis and proactive management of the bank’s expense policies. The senior manager will also be responsible for detailed expense reviews, providing insightful and timely expense-related analysis for executive management.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Primary point of contact for Expense Policies, including regular update and interaction with the Expense Policy Committee. Managing Expense Policies mailbox and maintaining timely response to inquiries
  • Support executive management and the broader Global FP&A team with expense-related ad-hoc analysis, which require data analytics, financial trending and modeling
  • Develop presentation materials for the Expense Policy Committee and executive management around expense trends, policy violations and related spend, and other ad hoc expense-related initiatives
  • Participate in month-end, quarter-end and year-end activities or annual profit plan where required, including preparation of internal materials for executive management
  • Support technology solutions to assist in the ongoing management of the bank’s Expense Policies, trend analysis and greater expense transparency
  • Build strong relationships and interact with key stakeholders across the bank
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?  We’d love to work with you if you have:   

  • Superior communications skills to convey key messages, both verbal and written with a proven track record of building presentation material for a senior executive audience
  • Strong inter-personal skills in dealing with all levels of management. 
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and evaluate trends and other financial information, and to make recommendations to executive management
  • Superior Excel spreadsheet skills to update, enhance and develop new models; and superior PowerPoint skills to convey key messages and charts in report presentations to senior management
  • Strong attention to detail in updating and developing financial models, system enhancements and to ensure a consistent quality of reporting to Executive Management
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau and citizen-led automation initiatives (e.g. Alteryx) considered an asset
  • Post secondary degree in Finance and Accounting with 5+ years banking experience
  • Accounting or post graduate designation (e.g. CPA, MBA or CFA) preferred
  • Strong understanding of financial planning and forecasting best practices; broad based understanding of the Bank’s business lines, products, and financial processes an asset
