Purpose

The Senior Manager assists the Director in the development, implementation, management, and communication of the Enterprise Risk Appetite Framework (RAF) and the associated processes, including providing oversight over lower tier risk appetite frameworks across the Bank’s global operations, and ensuring that all activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, industry best practices, internal policies and procedures.

 

Accountabilities

  • Assists in the development/update, implementation, and communication of the Enterprise Risk Appetite Framework (RAF) and the associated processes, and ensures they are consistent with internal requirements, industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains ongoing awareness of industry best practices and regulatory requirements with respect to risk appetite, and communicates findings with recommendations to management.  Assists in the department’s role of change agent, implementing enhancements to ensure the Bank meets and exceeds best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Reviews and provides subject matter expertise in the update and/or development of (i) Business Line and Control Function RAFs, (ii) Sub-Business Line RAFs, and (iii) standalone subsidiary RAFs.
  • Reviews and updates the Risk Appetite e-Learning course which serves as a foundational course for the Global Mandatory Learning Program.
  • Assists with preparation of the annual submission to the Human Resources Committee of the Board on the appropriateness of incentive plan payouts in relation to risk-related considerations.
  • Assist with the following RAF related processes:
  1. establishment of the overarching Enterprise Risk Capacity and Appetite,
  2. provides input into the annual strategic planning process,
  3. quarterly reporting of risk appetite metrics for inclusion in the ERM report to the Board,
  4. quarterly monitoring of key risk appetite limits against the projected CET1 ratio, 
  5. review of risk appetite related language in Executive Mandates and job descriptions, and
  6. updates to the Bank’s Annual Report disclosures with respect to risk appetite.
  • Assists with cascading and embedding risk appetite concepts throughout the Bank to support a strong risk culture and ensures that roles and responsibilities for development and implementation of the RAF are well defined and communicated.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Code of Conduct.

 

Education / Experience

  • An undergraduate degree required
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA), CFA, or MBA would be an asset
  • Strong understanding of risk management, the Bank’s operations and financial sector risks
  • Superior communication skills with ability to write clearly and concisely
  • Strong interpersonal, strategic, analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Results oriented and driven individual
  • Fluency (writing and speaking) in Spanish language would be an asset
