Title:  Senior Manager, Enterprise Conduct & Ethics - Global Compliance

Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of the Enterprise Ethics and Compliance Learning team, achieving specific individual goals, plans and initiatives are executed in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Overall activities conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Accountabilities 

  • Leads and drives a client-focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
  • Collaborates and manages key relationships with 2A Business Line/Corporate Function Compliance and 2B Enterprise Program/Pillars on the alignment related to conduct risk management & ethics program requirements.
  • Development, ongoing maintenance and improvements to the Enterprise Conduct Risk & Ethics Program, including with respect to the development and update of frameworks, policies, procedures and standards/guideline documents associated with the Scotiabank Code of Conduct (our “Code”) and in accordance with Global Compliance document standards/procedures.  Examples include the following documents and their successors:
  • Scotiabank Code of Conduct
  • Global Sales Conduct Management Standard
  • Global Outside Activities Policy
  • Scotiabank Code of Conduct Update Procedures

 

  • Identifies changes to frameworks, policies, procedures and standards to reduce conduct risk by addressing internal and external developments, industry trends, regulatory requirements, competitor positions, and root causes of substantiated misconduct cases while enabling business capacity and client primacy focus
  • Provides advice and counsel to business partners and 2A teams related to program framework/policies/procedures and communication & training strategies/plans
  • Plans, designs, develops and implements internal communications and training strategies and tactics coordinating with stakeholders (e.g. Global Communications, 2A Business Line/Corporate Function Compliance, and other stakeholders).  Conduct communications and training (including global mandatory learning modules, and SharePoint sites) promote a strong ethical culture and clear articulation aligned with our ScotiaBond values & behaviours and Code principles regarding the required ethical conduct to which all employees, officers and directors must adhere
  • Monitors ongoing and emerging external events, industry intelligence, regulatory scans, and other research related to  Conduct Risk as appropriate. Seeks opportunities to enhance program framework/policies & procedures, and communication & training strategies through these insights and lessons learned
  • Prepares submissions for Senior Management Committees including the Audit and Conduct Review Committee of the Board, related to the annual Code attestation for employees and external directors
  • Undertakes such other projects and initiatives, as directed by the Director, Enterprise Ethics & Compliance Learning
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with ScotiaBond Values & Behaviours, our Code, and the Global Sales Principles, while maintaining the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk
  • Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy, and managing succession and development planning for the team

 

Education/Experience

  • Post-secondary education; preferably a degree/designation in business administration, law, or political science;
  • At least 3 years of related experience in the financial services industry, preferably with a compliance, and/or risk management function;
  • Ability to operate in a high performing team environment;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing;
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and results oriented;
  • Good judgment and attention to detail, researching matters and providing advice and counsel;
  • Strong relationship management, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Working knowledge of management reporting & metrics, Microsoft Office software and document management;
  • Talent management and coaching experience;
  • Highly organized and capable of dealing with multiple, complex projects simultaneously
  • Spanish language proficiency (written and verbal) is an asset
