The Team

The Global Wealth Engineering (GWE) team is continuously modernizing and enhancing application and data platforms for Scotia Wealth Management. Our group consists of several agile teams working closely together to deliver, support, and maintain the platforms that service multiple domains such as client, advisor, and asset management experiences.

The Role

The team is seeking a Senior Manager, Engineering responsible for managing an ambitious team of engineers and QA focused on executing approved solution designs and ensuring delivery meets committed timelines, budget, scope, and quality standards. This role leads people, manages end‑to‑end technical delivery and applications, translating business and architectural requirements into executable plans, overseeing design and development activities, and actively managing delivery risks and dependencies amongst stakeholders across the organization. You will provide hands‑on technical leadership, mentor the team, manage people allocations, and ensure alignment across architects, engineers, business stakeholders, enterprise support teams, and regulatory partners. The role requires clear communication with senior leadership and a strong focus on predictable, high‑quality delivery in a complex, regulated environment.

  • Help drive strategy to transform current platforms using new technologies and tools available that best support the business needs. 
  • Incorporate modern technologies and practices to enhance user experience, redesign process flows, improve production support efforts, reduce operational costs, and improve security, availability, and reliability of overall business systems. 
  • Be responsible for managing the time and allocation of engineers and QA across multiple squads.
  • Effectively manage a team of technical professionals by setting performance expectations, monitoring performance, and providing technical guidance and coaching. This includes leading the recruitment of talent and building high-performing teams. 
  • Be responsible for development and QA time estimations for new initiatives, enhancements, and other to inform project timelines and roadmaps.
  • Be responsible for the design, architecture, and successful implementation of effective and quality solutions that resolve highly complex business problems and support business needs.
  • Oversee the support of critical business applications and work to continuously improve service levels while building strong relationships with key business and technical partners.
  • Ensure delivery meets the integrity, quality, performance, and reliability requirements by building automated testing and regression suites and using DevOps principles.
  • Champion a customer-focused and high-performing culture and contribute to an inclusive work environment.
  • Manage relationships with business and technology leadership, consequently effective communication an audience at all levels and the ability to promote an idea and gain consensus is critical.  

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • 10+ years of software development experience with clear progression through the ranks, and 3+ years leading and building high-performance teams
  • Experiences in a technical role in an Agile environment
  • Proven track record in delivering large-scale multi-year projects/program
  • Ability to lead and motivate software development teams on tight deadlines
  • Ability to quickly adapt and build a deep technical knowledge of their team’s deliverable and operating model
  • Ability to build and execute on a strategic roadmap by ruthlessly prioritizing value-added work
  • 5+ years of experience working with Node-JS, React, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java (e.g. Spring)
  • 3+ years of experience working with and implementing workflows on Microsoft Power Platform, SharePoint, and PEGA or equivalent
  • Have a continuous improvement mindset and be willing to lead by example
  • Familiar with open-source DevOps tools (Bitbucket/GIT, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Artifactory, Gradle, Docker)
  • Significant hands-on experience with multiple programming languages and SOLID principles, experience with a wide spectrum of technologies with emphasis on low latency, scalable, fault-tolerant platforms/applications with 24-7 Availability
  • Solid understanding and practical experience with cloud platforms, with Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure preferred
  • Strong communication skills – will be speaking with Stakeholders, Business Partners, Operation Teams, and Developers (translating conversations into requirements)  
  • Solid understanding of wealth management concepts, and workflows. Examples include but not limited to:
    • Client Lifecycle Management (Onboarding, Servicing, etc.)
    • Master Data Management (Security, Client, Position, Transaction, etc.)
    • Client Reporting & Portal
    • Investment Performance & Benchmarking
    • Portfolio Management (Asset Allocation, Risk Management, Rebalancing, etc.)
    • Trading Lifecycle (Order Generation, Order Management, Execution, Settlements, etc.)
    • Investment Operations (Reconciliation, Trade Support, Account Servicing, etc.)
