We are looking for a highly motivated and inspirational leader who demonstrates integrity, drive and courage to create a high performance culture and who will set the bar in process and service excellence.  The candidate will be responsible for leading and managing data risk acting as the Second Line of Defense by providing independent oversight and control over the on-going global data management and governance activities, as well as meeting compliance with data-related regulatory requirements and detect risks impacting data.


The candidate will act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for data risk oversight and will be relied upon the ability to work proactively and strategically, translating vision into tactics for execution as well as an understanding of best practice processes to meet the needs of the team.

 

Accountabilities

•    Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
•    Formulate and operationalize the lines of defense methodology particularly for Data Risk
•    Ability to formulate and execute Data Maturity Model principles
•    Ability to formulate system data lifecycle (SDLC) and project management lifecycle (PMLC) with combined knowledge and expertise in metadata, data lineage, data migration, data privacy, data retention & disposition
•    Executes and assesses the design and operating effectiveness of controls developed and implemented by the first line of defense.  This includes: (1) assessing first line of defense’s level of compliance with minimum standards set forth in the data framework and policy; (2) reporting of identified gaps with respect to first line of defense controls; and (3) tracking of associated corrective actions designed to close the identified gaps
•    Documents review findings and conducts analysis for remediation, in a timely manner  
•    Maintains and updates the second line of defense working documentations
•    Acts as lead officer accountable for managing assigned projects including (among others) New Initiatives Risk Assessment (NIRA), Risk Rating Assessment, Review Templates, etc.
•    Liaises with Domains, Working Groups, and Business Lines (e.g., VP’s, Directors, Data Architects, Senior Managers, etc.) or relevant committees on review/testing methodologies    
•    Provides guidance to the first line of defense on the design and best practices of effective data controls 
•    Well versed in the Bank’s risk related frameworks, policies and standards
•    Incorporates the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture, and assess regulatory initiatives impacting data and embed to day-to-day activities and decision-making process

 

What we're looking for?

  • An undergraduate degree or international equivalent is required. Advanced degree preferred but not mandatory
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working at a financial institution
  • Knowledge and familiarity with IT system authentications, data masking and encryption
  • Certifications or relevant studies in Compliance, Risk, or Audit
  • Knowledge, experience and understanding of Data Management Governance/Second Line of Defense, or related Compliance, Governance, Risk Management or Audit
  • Sound judgment in identifying risks in order to proactively escalate with relevant senior management
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong presentation skills
  • Demonstrated excellent ability to operate at a strategic level, self-confident, possessing a collaborative and participatory style
  • High professionalism, sensitivity, and discretion required
  • Proven leadership and people service driven
  • Office productivity skills (Word, Excel, Macro, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Systems and technical knowledge to operationalize Data Quality, Metadata, Financial Data Reconciliation with the use of systems and applications (e.g., IBM; Collibra; Python; etc.)
