Purpose

 

The Senior Manager, Data Products – Capital Markets leads the vision, roadmap, delivery and lifecycle management of reusable, governed data products for Global Capital Markets franchise within Scotiabank’s Global Banking and Markets. The role translates GCM business priorities, regulatory obligations and emerging data needs into trusted data products that are scalable, discoverable and fit for enterprise use.

 

This leader partners directly with business, technology, data governance and analytics stakeholders to define product strategy, shape requirements, prioritize outcomes, and guide cross-functional execution from concept through adoption and ongoing enhancement. The role is accountable for ensuring data products are built with strong governance, clear ownership, high-quality metadata, reusable data models and measurable business value.

 

•  Shape and drive the GCM data product roadmap, aligning delivery to business outcomes, regulatory priorities, platform modernization and AI-readiness.

•  Work closely with GBM stakeholders to identify high-value use cases, clarify product requirements, and convert complex data needs into reusable, trusted data assets.

•  Lead the implementation of data governance, metadata, lineage, data quality and certification practices across assigned data products and domains.

•  Act as the product and data subject matter expert for GCM data, partnering with data modelers, engineers, architects and governance teams to deliver scalable data assets.

•  Champion adoption of data products by engaging consumers, gathering feedback, measuring usage, and continuously improving product value and reliability.

 

Accountabilities

 

•  Champions a customer-focused culture by understanding the needs of capital markets data users, deepening business relationships and leveraging the broader Bank’s systems, data and knowledge.

•  Defines and drives the product vision, roadmap and prioritization for assigned capital markets data products, balancing business value, regulatory expectations, platform strategy and delivery capacity.

•  Turns complex business, regulatory and technology requirements into clear product outcomes, actionable backlogs and practical delivery plans for cross-functional teams.

•  Partners with engineering, architecture, data modeling and platform teams to guide product design, resolve trade-offs and ensure solutions are scalable, sustainable and aligned to enterprise data standards.

•  Leads the establishment and adoption of data governance structures, working with Data Stewards, Data Custodians and other key roles to embed accountability, policy adherence and a strong data culture.

•  Performs review and challenge for data initiatives and domain implementations to ensure data management activities comply with applicable policies, standards and risk expectations.

•  Supports the creation, extension and maintenance of the common data model for GBM use cases.

•  Maintains strong awareness of capital markets products, business processes, regulatory drivers, technology changes and data platform capabilities; ensures definitions, metadata and product documentation remain current.

•  Defines and tracks KPIs / KRIs for product adoption, data quality, governance effectiveness, delivery health and consumer value; uses insights to guide continuous improvement.

•  Communicates product strategy, delivery progress, risks and decisions clearly to senior stakeholders, translating technical detail into business impact and actionable recommendations.

•  Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

 

Dimensions

 

•  Senior product leader for capital markets data products, with accountability for shaping reusable data capabilities that support front-office, risk, finance, regulatory, operations and analytics consumers.

•  Recognized subject matter expert in capital markets data, including trade, transaction, client, counterparty, instrument, position, risk, reference and regulatory reporting domains.

•  Experienced in enterprise data management, data product management, data governance, data analysis and / or data engineering within a banking or financial markets environment.

•  Strong technical fluency with modern data platforms and product delivery practices, including data modelling, metadata, lineage, data quality, SQL-based analysis and dashboard-driven decision-making.

•  Able to partner deeply with senior engineers, architects and data specialists while maintaining clear focus on customer value, risk outcomes and business adoption.

•  Strong communication and storytelling skills, including the ability to explain product strategy, data concepts and trade-off decisions to executive, business and technical audiences.

•  Experience with Databricks, cloud data platforms, medallion architecture, knowledge graphs, semantic models, Python, SQL, HQL and / or SPARQL is an asset.

•  Minimum of 7–8 years of relevant experience, preferably in capital markets, financial services, enterprise data, product management or technology delivery. Proven experience defining product strategy, building roadmaps and delivering data, analytics or platform capabilities from concept through adoption.

•  Strong understanding of capital markets products, data flows and business processes; experience with regulatory reporting, trade lifecycle, risk, finance or operations data is an asset.

•  Mastery / subject matter expertise in data governance leading practices, including data management policies, standards, metadata, lineage, data quality, ownership and certification.

•  Demonstrated ability to work with senior business leaders, engineers, architects, data modelers and governance teams to solve complex problems through a collaborative delivery model.

•  Strong analytical skills, including comfort with SQL, data profiling, product usage metrics, dashboards and evidence-based prioritization.

•   Excellent communication, presentation and storytelling skills, including the ability to engage executive management and translate technical complexity into business value.

•  Post-secondary education: Graduate degree or equivalent experience in business, finance, computer science, engineering, data, mathematics or a related discipline.

•  Project / product delivery discipline, with the ability to manage diverse priorities, make trade-off decisions and deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-moving environment.
