Responsible for Data & AI risk management oversight activities, contributing to the successful development of a second line of defense risk management program in Tangerine.

Performs independent risk assessments and challenges risk management practices conducted by the first line of defense, ensuring that the Bank’s exposure to Data and AI risk is effectively identified, measured, monitored, and mitigated.

In partnership with Scotiabank teams, ensures that Data and AI risk management activities comply with governing regulations and internal policies and procedures. 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

• Provide expertise and advice to the first line of defense on the design and best practices for effective Data & AI risk controls, metrics, compliance, and risk mitigation.
• Review and provide advice relating to frameworks, policies, standards, and control objectives. Build and sustain a risk aware culture. 
• Develop strong partnerships with business and risk partners to provide advice and guidance to effectively mitigate Data & AI risk. Collaborate to ensure information sharing and support risk oversight initiatives.
• Assess existing Data and AI architecture plans, frameworks and implementation while ensuring compliance with the Bank’s standards and organizational goals.  
• Conduct independent assessment of the design and operating effectiveness of Data & AI controls developed and implemented by the first line of defense.
• Maintain and enhance Data & AI risk documentation (procedures, assessments, testing and reporting).
• Assist in compiling periodic and ad-hoc reporting to the CRO, Risk Committees and the Board, including collection of metrics and creation of dashboards and reports.
• Contribute to the development of Data & AI risk metrics and monitor relevant metrics.
• Design scoring and quantification methodologies to support risk appetite discussions and enable sound decision making.
• Identify, report, and escalate risks or issues to senior management as appropriate.
• Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performance team environment.
• Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
• Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values and its Code of Conduct, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

• At least 7 years of experience in Data and AI risk management/governance.
• Knowledge of best practices and concepts in data management (eg. data quality, data lineage, metadata) and related regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of AI risks and emerging requirements and regulations (eg. EU AI Act, AI NIST).
• Experience working at a Canadian financial institution would be an asset.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills.
• A proven track record of engaging and presenting to stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data to arrive at succinct messages and conclusions.
