Job Purpose

The Senior Manager, Canadian Provisions, ensures the accuracy and integrity of allowances for the Canadian Retail and Small Business portfolios as compliant with IFRS regulations. This includes the analysis of key drivers of Provisions for Credit Losses supported by data risk analytics. He/she will also be required to execute the Canadian Provision models on a monthly basis utilizing the Common Provision Platform (CPP).

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Run provision models on a monthly basis including the running of the business line models and the upload of manual feeds and adjustments to the Common Provision Platform (CPP). Ensuring end to end process is compliant to SOX controls and audit trails.
  • Working closely with key partners as Risk Model Analytics (RMA) and Enterprise Stress Testing (EST) to gain a comprehensive in-depth analysis of portfolio quality and key loss drivers to changes in allowances. Support enhancements to existing provision models.
  • Develop vintage analysis to assess historical performance and identify trends across bookings of different time periods. Incorporate observed trends into provision analysis and the relationship between portfolio quality, recovery forecasting, bankruptcies and losses.
  • Support the preparation of the monthly Credit Risk Committee presentations to the various business lines providing insights to the key drivers in Provisions of the portfolio.
  • Prepare various regulatory and risk reporting for OSFI and other divisions within the banking such as Capital Management and Finance as related to provisions
  • Ensure end to end process is compliant with internal, external and SOX audit requirements. Including providing support to address audit and SOX texting.
  • Identify and analyze operational issues and the impact to allowances. Work closely with the MIS and CPP Teams for enhancements to the provisioning platform, data requirements, procedures and implementation/changes to existing models.
  • Participate in due diligence and risk assessment activities for new acquisitions, portfolio purchases, mergers, etc.  Ensure that the portfolio under consideration reflects Scotiabank’s risk appetite and facilitate the migration of new portfolios to the Bank.
  • Maintain lines of communication with Business Line, various groups in GRM, Audit, SOX to support Risk Management’s current needs, identify issues and opportunities and future initiatives.
  • Assess alternative scenarios to determine potential PCL impact. Develop sensitivity analysis to identify major drivers of PCL with regard to quality, growth, portfolio mix, macroeconomic factors, and product specific performance.

Education/ Experiences

  • Expert understanding of risk analytics, strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Experience in provisions, credit risk management and/or finance Knowledge of various database software.
  • Good working knowledge of SAS is an asset.
  • An undergraduate degree in a related subject (ie Business/Accounting/Economics or any other Quantitative subject). A professional designation would be considered an asset.
