The Role
International Wealth Management (IWM) is strengthening its First Line of Defence (1A) Risk function to support safe, scalable growth across a complex, multi-jurisdictional business.
As Senior Manager, Business Controls, you will play a key role in designing, enhancing, and sustaining the business control environment across International Wealth Management. Working closely with senior leaders across the business, you will help strengthen controls, identify and mitigate risk, drive issue remediation, and support the development of a scalable risk and governance framework.
Reporting to the Head of Risk Supervision & Oversight, this role offers significant exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to partner with Operations, Sales, Compliance, Business Risk Management, and Audit teams across multiple regions.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of the International Wealth Management business control environment.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive inventory of business controls across multiple business units and jurisdictions.
- Assess control effectiveness, identify control gaps, perform root cause analysis, and drive remediation activities.
- Partner with business and functional teams to embed controls into existing processes, strategic initiatives, and new business activities.
- Drive automation and optimization of controls to improve efficiency, consistency, and transparency.
- Lead the identification and assessment of operational, compliance, conduct, and other non-financial risks.
- Develop and monitor key risk indicators (KRIs), risk dashboards, heat maps, and early warning indicators.
- Conduct thematic reviews and risk assessments to identify trends, emerging risks, and opportunities for control enhancements.
- Provide meaningful risk insights and recommendations to support executive decision-making.
- Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of audit findings, regulatory issues, management concerns, and remediation activities.
- Support governance committees and leadership forums through reporting, analysis, and effective challenge.
- Drive accountability across the business for managing risks, strengthening controls, and resolving issues in a timely manner.
- Partner with stakeholders across Operations, Sales, Compliance, Business Risk Management, and Audit to support risk management initiatives.
- Promote a strong risk culture focused on accountability, transparency, and proactive risk management.
- Support the development and evolution of a scalable, sustainable, and effective First Line of Defence risk capability.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:
- Prior experience in financial services, ideally within wealth management, capital markets, or banking.
- Experience in business controls, operational risk, governance, risk oversight, or first-line risk management.
- Strong knowledge of operational, compliance, conduct, and non-financial risk management frameworks.
- Experience designing, implementing, and assessing business controls and control frameworks.
- Experience managing audit findings, regulatory issues, control remediation, and governance activities.
- Proven ability to perform root cause analysis and develop practical, risk-based solutions.
- Experience working across multiple business units, regions, and stakeholder groups within a complex organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex issues into actionable recommendations.
- Experience developing risk reporting, KRIs, dashboards, and executive-level presentations.
- Excellent relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence senior leaders.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving, and transformational environment.
