Purpose
The Senior Manager, Branch Oversight, Business Controls, Private Banking is responsible for managing and providing regulatory support to the 16 Private Banking Branches nationally. In addition the incumbent promotes and ensures that high quality service is provided. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedure. The incumbent will also contribute to the provision of human, straightforward and knowledgeable service through their daily interactions to foster a relationship of mutual trust and confidence with
partners and other employees. They ensure service provided is consistently of high quality in keeping with Scotia Service Standards and complaint Resolution Standards.
What you will be doing:
Manage Day to Day Branch Regulatory Activities by:
- Oversee and monitor the daily review of the support package and periodic management reports to ensure timely completion to mitigate risk to the branches within Private Banking
- Identifying trends and/or gaps across report findings with recommendation on how to improve the effectiveness of first line controls to the Director and business line partners
- Providing clarification and direction on issues raised
- Identifying and communicating best practices
- Analyzing root causes of operational/regulatory breaches and initiating corrective action by recommending/implementing policy, procedural and system solutions
Manage Operational Effectiveness by:
- Collaborating with PB Senior Manager AML and PB Senior Manager National Operations to ensure
branch is compliant per established policy and procedure of regulatory requirement - Providing training and guidance to the field on emerging issues, regulatory trends and best practices
- Actively pursuing effective and efficient operations of respective area, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Code of Conduct
- Identify overarching trends and/or gaps across businesses and provide recommendations on how to improve the effectiveness Privacy Risk process to Compliance Management.
- Ensuring Branch compliance with regulatory activities and guidelines including Privacy Act as the 1A Privacy Officer, which encompasses the roles and responsibilities set out in the Privacy Risk Management Policy. The 1A Privacy Officer is involved in privacy programs that include (but are not limited to): implementing privacy frameworks, policies and procedures; staying abreast of regulatory developments and industry best practices; advising on privacy related matters; privacy training and awareness programs; access to information requests; privacy-related incidents and breaches; and privacy control testing
- Ongoing collaboration with key partners and stakeholders to identify opportunities for further efficiencies
- Supporting other activities as required, including coverage across team

- Exhibiting an ability to listen, negotiate and communicate goals

- Ensuring the performance management process is in place and employee development is a priority for all employees on the team
- Regularly scheduling one-on-one coaching with direct reports
- Identifying and supporting training and development needs of team members
- Facilitating a culture of open and honest communication
- Actively share knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team
