Job Purpose

Scotiabank’s newly created Compliance Transformation Program Office (“TPO”) is seeking a Senior Manager, for the Alignment Office team. We are building an industry leading Global Compliance function to maintain customer trust and protect the Bank’s reputation.

 

Reporting to the Director, Business Lead, Compliance Transformation Program, the incumbent will join a dynamic team to establish and oversee the Alignment Office. The primary role of the Alignment Office is to design, implement and sustain a bank-wide common Business Unit Hierarchy (BUH). The design and implementation of the BUH sets the foundation in creating an effective Global Issues Management framework and consistent reporting. It is also essential to ensure the success of a global risk management program with a well-defined risk culture.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Leverage bank relationship, knowledge of business processes and systems to build and sustain a common business unit hierarchy for use across 3 lines of defence.
  • Lay the foundation for stakeholder cooperation by establishing an alignment governance framework and the operating model.
  • Work with stakeholders across 3 lines of defence to solicit user requirements, and facilitate alignment of the operating model, processes, roles and responsibilities for maintenance of common hierarchy, Work with stakeholders and IT&S partners in leading the design, configuration and implementation of a technology solution to support ongoing BUH alignment.
  • Support sustainment through transitioning processes to a BAU environment.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of the BUH by conducting on-going analysis and facilitating stakeholder discussions to get consensus on updates. 
  • Implement best practices for effective communication, relationship management and problem-solving with stakeholders.
  • Play a leadership role to ensure that deliverables are in-scope, on-time and of high quality.
  • Provide direction and support the team as needed.  Coach and motivate team members by championing a high performance culture.
  • Implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vision/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • Lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships.
  • Support other projects as required.

 

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in either Business, Finance, Risk, Operations Management with a 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in the 2nd and/or 3rd line of defence preferably in the Financial Industry.
  • Strong negotiating, consensus building skills with ability to take a value-driven view to balance business/technical issues.
  • Results-oriented and driven individual with a deep passion for developing the Governance Office.
  • High tolerance for ambiguity.
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, problem-solving, conflict management and critical thinking skills.
  • Enthusiastic leader, with excellent verbal and written communication/presentation skills, who can thrive in a dynamic team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent knowledge with MS Office including Excel, PowerPoint & VBA. Experience with BI tools such as Power BI /Tableau would be an asset.
  • Fluency (writing and speaking) in Spanish language would be an asset.
