Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of Global Insurance, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures activities conducted comply with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Accountabilities
Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Insurance Canada IFRS17 valuation lead with responsibilities including:
o Lead the monthly actuarial valuation process
o Lead the valuation controls process
o Maintaining the IFRS17 models and develop enhancements as needed
o Conduct annual Experience Studies and Assumption updates - Support IFRS17 reporting process optimization and enhancements incorporating industry best practices
- Ownership of capital calculations including LICAT calculations, EWST and dividend recommendations.
- Work with Appointed Actuary to deliver OSFI requirements including the annual Appoiunted Actuary’s report
- Deliver Internal and External Audit requirements
- Support Actuarial Pricing staff as it relates to IFRS17
- Assisting Director of actuarial with his mandate including data analysis for business insights
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education / Experience
- Fellowship in the Canadian Institute of Actuaries or Society of Actuaries or equivalent.
- Insurance product knowledge – creditor and direct-to-consumer products
- Experience with insurance product analysis including lapse and mortality studies
- Experience with IFRS17 valuation and reporting
- Proficiency in advanced excel and Moody’s AXIS and Risk Integrity software
- Proficiency in analytics software including PowerBI is an asset.
