Purpose

 

We are looking for a senior Java Developer to join our Payments Technology team and play a key role in the design, development, and evolution of businesscritical payment platforms. This role goes beyond hands-on development: you will act as a technical leader, shaping solutions, driving best practices, and enabling the team to deliver scalable, secure, and highquality systems.

You will work in a complex, fastpaced environment supporting missioncritical applications, collaborating with crossfunctional and global teams, and contributing directly to modernization initiatives that impact the bank’s core payment capabilities.

 

What You’ll Do:

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Champion a customer-focused culture, ensuring solutions deliver business value and reliability.
  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality Java-based backend applications for critical payment systems.
  • Lead and actively participate in code reviews, design reviews, and architectural discussions.
  • Own technical solutions end-to-end, from design through production support, while continuously reducing technical debt.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level developers.
  • Drive adoption of best practices in software engineering, testing, CI/CD, and secure coding.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, and stakeholders during solution discovery and requirement refinement.
  • Break down complex initiatives into deliverable work items and support accurate estimation and planning.
  • Participate in production incident triage, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proactively identify risks, dependencies, and improvement opportunities, articulating their impact clearly.
  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing forums and Communities of Practice.

 

 

What You'll Bring:

 

Technical Skills

  • Strong, hands-on experience with Java and enterprise-grade backend development.
  • Solid knowledge of Spring / Spring Boot and modern Java frameworks.
  • Experience working with complex, distributed systems and full application lifecycles.
  • Familiarity with IBM integration and middleware tools (e.g., WebSphere, ACE, IIB, MQ, DB2) is a strong asset.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools (e.g., Git, Jenkins, Ansible).
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of databases and data access patterns (e.g., DB2, PostgreSQL, MySQL, NoSQL).
  • Ability to write clean, testable, and maintainable code, leveraging Technical Design Document and automated testing practices.
  • Comfortable with scripting and troubleshooting (e.g., Unix Shell, SQL).

  • Proven ability to lead technical discussions and challenge design decisions constructively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in highimpact production environments.
  • Ability to work independently on complex problems while supporting team success.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Growth mindset with a passion for learning, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience working in Agile environments, embracing collaboration and frequent delivery.
