Global Technology Services Enterprise Cloud & Computer Operations Group (GTS-ECCO) provides technology solutions and platforms supporting Global Banking & Markets (GBM), Global Risk Management (GRM), as well as Canadian & International Banking.  We serve 21 million customers across 55 countries and almost 87,000 employees.


Based in Toronto, GTS - ECCO - Infrastructure & Engineering Support provides production implementation and support for online banking and trading system infrastructure.


Reporting to the Senior Manager, the Senior Application/Middleware Support Analyst is responsible for providing highly specialized technical leadership in the analysis, design, development, and support of cost effective, mission critical, on-line, real time financial systems for Global Technology Services.  The Senior Application/Middleware Support Analyst is responsible for complex infrastructure projects and initiatives in the department, implementing technology changes to meet business objectives, providing technical consultation in specialized areas and providing 24x7 support for resolution and preventions of problems in a production environment.


This position requires you to work on-site and remotely. From time to time, you are available for off-hours/weekends for systems support/upgrade.  The Senior Application/Middleware Support Analyst will carry a cell phone for rotational on-call 24x7 support.




Resolution and Prevention of Problems

• Presented with system level and application problems on mission critical systems requiring resolution in a timely manner.

• Often will lead in problem resolution and determination requiring interaction with other teams, including vendors.

• Developing and delivering procedures to protect production environments from unplanned outages.

• At times will lead and guide other resources on problem prevention and resolution.

• Will be required to provide on-call support on a 24x7 rotational basis.


Provide Technical Assistance to Users and Peers

• Leads in implementing practical manual or automated procedures to fulfil inbound infrastructure requests for environment changes and application releases.

• Provides technical assistance to other groups and users upon request.

• Communicate to users with varying levels of technical experience and background.


Systems Administration and New Projects

• Takes leadership in implementing system administration processes associated with environment of specialization.

• New projects tasks include user creation, firewall requests, server / middleware / application and monitoring tools setup and configuration.

• Will be required to work off hours and weekends to participate in implementing infrastructure maintenances and upgrades.


Control Access, Ensure Security and Contingency Planning

• Ongoing customization and maintenance of system access facilities to ensure/enforce strict security policies of financial environment.

• Leads in developing and implementing contingency plans for various hardware and software components.


System Monitoring and Updates

• During the course of the year, proactively ensures systems are monitored and statistical information regarding resource usage is compiled. Takes on a leadership role in putting forward recommendations to management for capacity planning and system upgrades where resource constraints are identified.


User Group Involvement

• Participates in meetings and conference calls both internally and with external user groups as required.




• You have at least 3+ years of hands-on technical working experience in leading complex production issue investigations.

• You have at least 3+ years of hands-on technical working experience in the support of applications and middleware (e.g., Websphere/Tomcat).

• You have at least 3+ years of hands-on technical working experience with the system analysis of Solaris/Red Hat Linux Operating System.

• You possess good verbal and written communication skills.

• You have good interpersonal skills & able to work well within a team.

• You possess the ability to work under pressure.

• An understanding of Bank application and batch processing support is an asset.




Post-secondary education with a focus on Computer Science or Math or Engineering disciplines.
