Title:  Senior Analyst, Corporate Interest

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Accounting and Revenue Control, the Senior Analyst, Corporate Interest performs monitoring, analysis, reconciliations, reporting and accounting for Global Banking and Markets (GBM) businesses in the Subsidiaries in Canada and USA.  The focus of this position is to perform daily, bi-weekly, and monthly tasks for GBM businesses in our Scotia Capital Inc. (SCI) and Scotia Capital USA (SCUSA) subsidiary.

 

Is this role right for you?  In this role, you will:

 

  • Monitor for suspense balances and for customer and product segmentation 9999.  Propose and release accounting entries to clear these exceptions, on a-daily-basis, for SCUSA.
  • Review Exception Reports – identify trade capture gaps in source systems and follow up with Product Control, Middle Office, or Trade Administration for the resolution.
  • Perform Cash Reconciliation.
  • Prepare Cost-of-Carry report.
  • Perform Settlement Date Balancing.
  • Perform Contra Reconciliation
  • Perform mapping for any new inventory (100 accounts range) or any changes in AS400 Blue.
  • Manage FA Rebate – allocate FA adjustment to ensure that any residual value of any excess/shortage fees are distributed back to the respective desks.
  • Monitor the movement on interest rates and advise the changes to all related units within Product Control.
  • Confirm funding rate applied correctly in all business lines (Client Interest, Call Loan, SB&L etc.).
  • Update Monthly Planner for E&E, IALA, CI Trend, Settlement Date Balancing and Contra Reconciliation tasks.
  • Perform Balance Sheet attestation or review of Balance Sheet Substantiations submitted to Accounting Control team by respective Product Control groups.
  • Perform process and reporting automation using Citizen Led Automation tools.
  • Provide backup to other staff in the team during period of absence or intensive workload at month or quarter-end.
  • Maintain Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documentation and follow procedures accordingly to ensure data quality and consistent delivery of service according to established Operating Service Level Agreement.
  • Exemplify a customer focused culture within the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:

 

  • Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Financial Mathematics, Financial Engineering in combination with business / accounting is preferred.
  • CFA or CPA designation will be an asset.
  • An understanding of Capital Markets, Group Treasury and Structured Finance products.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years in relevant hands-on experience in Product Control (alternatively, Middle Office, Product Control, Finance or Operations) supporting a Capital Markets environment.  
  • A solid understanding of Bank accounting policies, trading policies, market practice, regulatory requirements and the inherent risks associated with all of capital market products.  
  • Strong problem-solving skills and proficiency with Excel, VBA, Power BI and Power Query.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with Product Control and Finance staff.
  • The incumbent must have leadership ability, be self-motivated and be able to operate in a backup capacity to the Manager.
