Purpose

 

The Senior Manager, Business Initiatives, ScotiaMcLeod Sales Management contributes to the development, prioritization and execution of ScotiaMcLeod’s technology strategy, supporting the delivery of improved client and advisor experience, enabling regulatory oversight and driving business results.

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Act as a key stakeholder on multiple assigned initiatives, representing and clearly communicating the interests and requirements of all ScotiaMcLeod roles to our technology, operations, regulatory and vendor partners, with a goal of delivering an improved client and advisor team experience.  This involves being actively engaged with advisor and management teams across the country to understand priorities and challenges and attending ongoing stakeholder meetings throughout the lifecycle of each initiative. 
  • Facilitate effective change management on all technology-related initiatives by planning change timing, assessing change impacts, then coordinating and leveraging communications and training resources to meet ScotiaMcLeod’s needs.
  • Act as an escalation point for support of ScotiaMcLeod’s applications and technology-based processes, ensuring all issues are fully understood and triaged, with the right resources engaged and priorities identified to resolve.  This includes timely and clear field communication and business representation during system outages and resulting post-mortems.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.  Identify business risks associated with new initiatives and help develop mitigation strategies to ensure success.   
  • Author/create and deliver presentations on the progress of ScotiaMcLeod’s initiatives to Scotia Wealth executive, ScotiaMcLeod branches, Advisory boards and to our technology and operational partners.  
  • Build and maintain strong relationships and ongoing collaboration with partners in ScotiaMcLeod, Technology and Product Owner teams, Operations, Compliance and across Wealth Management. 
  • Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment.
  • Pursue effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Functions independently as a business subject matter expert (SME) and stakeholder on multiple concurrent projects of varying sizes, requiring sound business knowledge and decision-making capabilities.
  • Average workdays are meeting-intensive, requiring strong multi-tasking capabilities, and a high degree of organization and efficiency.
  • Dynamic, fast-paced environment requirement flexibility, responsiveness, and strong results-focus. Candidates must have the ability to manage multiple project assignments and workstreams while simultaneously managing unplanned events.
  • Must be able to communicate complex technology-related issues into clear, easy-to-understand language to support Advisor team communications, typically under time constraints.

 

 

Education/Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience; MBA considered an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in delivering small to large scale technology projects
  • 3 or more years of relevant experience in the retail brokerage business, either in a client-facing or head office/support role
  • Demonstrated knowledge of full-service investment and wealth management business activities and workflows, including, but not limited to, trading and reporting systems, client onboarding/account opening systems and processes and portfolio performance calculation methodologies
  • Familiarity and experience working in both Agile and Waterfall project environments
  • Highly developed relationship management skills to build and maintain effective relationships across the business and with internal partners
  • Strong presentation and written communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft 365 suite of applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Project management and change management experience considered an asset
