As the Senior Manager, Business Development, you will drive new business acquisition for Scotia Jarislowsky Fraser through the design and execution of key initiatives and the ongoing management of activities that support business development efforts. You will provide dedicated focus to this important area, partnering with Scotia Jarislowsky Fraser Regional Directors, ales teams, Executive Office colleagues, and other partners across the enterprise to enhance the profile and positioning of SJF and maximize business growth The role also includes responsibility for marketing and communications support that helps drive business growth in SJF Offices Nationally. The role is focused on maximizing the sales effectiveness of the business and includes responsibility for marketing and communications support that helps drive growth. In this role, you will lead a broad range of business development, sales enablement, marketing and communications activities.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
Lead the development and execution of new business development and marketing initiatives:
- Actively participate in annual business and strategic planning that will inform sales objectives and identify key activities.
- Create and manage annual marketing plans, including key deliverables and operating budgets, and lead the execution of all marketing activities in SJF branches
- Collaborate with peers, particularly sales leaders, to ensure initiatives are feasible and have a strong likelihood of success.
- Design and manage sales campaigns
- Partner with the Practice Excellence to identify opportunities to create or integrate programs designed to generate new business.
- Implement strong processes and practices designed to track and communicate the effectiveness and results of new business development activities.
Proactively and reactively support the marketing needs of the business:
- Manage relationships with our partners in Marketing, including the Sponsorships team, and meet regularly to oversee the effective implementation of various initiatives.
- Identify gaps in our marketing presence—collateral, materials, online content, and more—and develop new content to address them.
- Collaborate with the SJF EO team and Regional Directors to ensure Scotia Jarislowsky Fraser content is incorporated and properly represented in business line materials, websites, and other channels.
- Coordinate requests from the field and partners to create and/or improve various marketing pieces
- Identify opportunities and lead client event planning in SJF branches nationally
- Manage the online presence of the business and all related content, both internally and externally, across relevant websites and social media channels.
Deliver inside sales support to Scotia Jarislowsky Fraser staff:
- Act as a key resource in designing and creating sales pitches or other packages for new business development, engaging relevant partners as needed.
- Provide guidance and support to Scotia Jarislowsky Fraser colleagues in the development of professional-looking presentations and other materials.
- Complement local business development activities through the execution of centralized follow-up and supporting activities.
Manage Scotia Jarislowsky Fraser sales and recognition programs:
- Oversee the criteria for Scotia Jarislowsky Fraser sales staff to qualify for President’s Council, providing annual recommendations to the leadership team based on analysis and insights, and ensuring the program aligns with approaches taken by other business lines.
- This includes using analysis and insights to provide annual recommendations to leadership and ensuring alignment with approaches used across other business lines.
- Identify opportunities to enhance existing compensation programs and/or introduce new programs designed to drive new business and reinforce important employee behaviours.
- Ensure appropriate tracking and reporting so all sales and recognition programs can be properly measured and remain transparent to participants.
- Develop and maintain an understanding of how competitors leverage compensation and recognition to drive new business outcomes.
Direct day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and relevant risk appetite statements and limits:
- Communicate the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite throughout the team. This includes reinforcing risk culture and communicating expectations consistently.
- Ensure adequate adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations related to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risks.
- These controls support the team’s broader risk management obligations.
Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates the team:
- This includes fostering an inclusive environment, applying a coaching mindset, communicating vision and values, and managing succession and development planning
- The role also requires clear communication of business strategy and leadership expectations across the team.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We would love to work with you if you have:
- Completion of post-secondary education
- Experience in marketing and/or business development
- Financial Services industry accreditation/experience would be an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Wealth Management business is a must have and preferably gained within an Advisory channel environment
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to facilitate the development of a positive and effective team environment
- The ability to influence and partner effectively is an important aspect of this position
- The ability to continually challenge the status quo, set a positive example for change, and encourage others to do the same to facilitate the achievement of a customer-focused sales culture.
- Strong communication skills
