The SPP Solution Manager, Health Care Professional Banking, is responsible to support the Senior Manager Sales in the efficient processing of new credit applications and administration of an assigned account portfolio.  The officer will assist in ensuring portfolio growth and revenue generation through management of their assigned portfolio and delivery of premium levels of Professional Banking service consistent with Scotia Service and Complaint Resolution Standards.


Major Accountabilities


  1. Contribute to growth of Health Care Professional Banking book of business by:
  • Ensuring the efficient processing and submission of ACE and GRM loan applications for Health Care Professionals
  • Ensuring loan and deposit account packages are thoroughly and accurately prepared for client signatures
  • Assist in the closing meeting with the Senior Manager Sales as required
  • Providing a high level of service to the Senior Manager Sales in the efficient and effective processing of potential new and renewal lending prospects
  • Providing prompt response to senior management requests and enquiries, and resolving problem situations
  • Provide a premium level of service to assigned existing and potential new customers by providing prompt response to requests and enquiries, and ensuring the efficient administration of customer accounts
  • Identify opportunities for development of Wealth business generation through the referral of prospects to SPCG
  • Monitoring accounts to ensure that optimum profitability is maintained in each relationship
  • Participating in the social and professional life of the business community as directed
  • Supporting and closely working with Regional strategy to transition SPSP to SPP


  1. Effectively manage a credit portfolio at an acceptable level of risk by:
  • Exercising sound analytical skills and techniques and prudent judgment in granting loans within authorized limits
  • Preparing comprehensive credit presentations with effective recommendations for adjudication by higher authority (ACE, GRM)
  • Maintaining accounts within the conditions and limits of authorization, identifying problem situations at an early date, and initiating recommending effective corrective action where required
  • Keeping abreast of changes in account practices, Government Tax regulations and other factors as they relate to personal and business financial analysis
  • Reviewing accounts which are overdrawn or in arrears and exercising effective action to regularize the account
  • Providing support in the identification and appropriate action on deteriorating and/or unsatisfactory trends affecting the loan portfolio


  1. Manage and minimize the Bank’s exposure to risk by:
  • Adhering to and ensuring compliance with regulatory activities and guidelines including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti Terrorist Financing, FCAD, Know Your Customer, CDIC, Occupational Health & Safety
  • Ensuring strict adherence to Bank security procedures, including assigned authorities and limits
  • Escalating fraudulent activities, unusual occurrences, issues/deficiencies/trends to Branch Manager and/or applicable Shared Services Department as appropriate


Additional Experience


The incumbent requires a detailed knowledge of the Bank’s Small Business and Scotia Professional Plan products, services and sales processes, and a working knowledge of Retail Payments & Investment products.


To complement this knowledge a thorough understanding of the Domestic Bank’s structures, processes and resources is required. 


He/she must be able to effectively articulate their views to all levels within the Branch Network.  Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential.


The ability to build and maintain key relationships is essential, along with the ability to influence and persuade others.  He/she must possess tactical planning, implementation and organization skills. A high degree of flexibility is required to adapt to a wide variety of tasks and functions. 


In particular, the following functional competencies are required:


  • Expert knowledge of the Bank’s Small Business products and services, including the supporting systems such as the ACE and GRM, good knowledge of Retail Payments and Investment products necessary to provide a Total Solution
  • Good knowledge of the Bank’s Small Business selling approach, Small Business selling tools and calculators and Branch Resource Centre for Business
  • Thorough knowledge of Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, Sales Builder and other retail management platforms (i.e. IRIS, Intralink etc)
  • Thorough knowledge of support services provided by various Bank partners’ e.g. BSC, Franchising; GTB, SPCG etc
  • Creativity in packaging services and appropriate SB product to customer needs
  • Proven communication skills (verbal and written)
