Purpose
The Senior Project Manager is accountable for leading complex, cross functional initiatives from initiation through delivery, ensuring projects are executed on time, within scope, and within budget. This role provides strategic guidance, risk management, and stakeholder alignment to enable predictable outcomes and seamless delivery of business and technical capabilities. They serve as a steady, trusted leader who brings structure, transparency, and collaborative problem solving to fast paced environments, ensuring project success and positive customer and employee experiences. This role will contribute to the overall success of the Global Low Value Payments Engineering – Trade Finance teams to ensure accurate and timely execution of our organizational priorities.
What You’ll Do:
Project Leadership & Delivery
- Lead end to end delivery of medium to large scale projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical strategies.
- Develop and manage integrated project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
- Drive scope clarity and scope control, ensuring all dependencies and constraints are actively managed.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders across business, technology, and vendor teams.
- Communicate progress, risks, and decisions through clear, concise dashboards, status updates, and executive presentations.
- Build strong relationships that promote transparency, trust, and shared accountability.
Risk, Issue & Change Management
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks to ensure predictable delivery.
- Lead structured problem solving to address cross team challenges and escalate when necessary.
- Manage project change requests with full impact assessment and stakeholder buy in.
Financial & Vendor Management
- Own project budgets, financial tracking, forecasts, and reporting.
- Partner with procurement, vendor management, and third party suppliers to ensure quality deliverables and contract compliance.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to enterprise project governance, regulatory expectations, and compliance standards (e.g., audit, security, privacy, payments compliance when applicable).
- Maintain project documentation that supports enterprise reporting, post‑implementation reviews, and audit readiness.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to the refinement of project delivery practices, tools, templates, and repeatable processes.
- Mentor junior project managers and project coordinators to support organizational capability building.
- Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
Organizational Expectations
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
What You'll Bring:
Education & Certification
- Post-secondary degree in Business, Technology, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- PMP certification strongly preferred; additional credentials (PMI‑ACP, PgMP, PRINCE2, or Lean/Agile training) are an asset.
Professional Experience
- Project management experience at a senior level in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
- Demonstrated success delivering cross‑functional technology or enterprise projects.
- Experience in financial services, payments, or highly regulated industries is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong command of project management methodologies (Predictive/Waterfall, Hybrid, or Agile where applicable).
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder‑management skills with the ability to influence without authority.
- Proficiency in project management tools (MS Project, Jira, or similar).
- Proven ability to manage budgets, vendor relationships, and contract deliverables.
- Skilled in risk management, negotiation, facilitation, and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity and drive clarity in fast‑moving environments.
