Purpose
The Manager, Strategic Financial Controls contributes to the overall success of Canadian Banking Strategy & Planning Org ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. The successful candidate will drive business impact by overseeing portfolio financials, analyzing trends, and partnering with cross functional teams to ensure timely and consistent financial management and portfolio reporting.
Accountabilities
- Working with Senior Manager, Strategic Financial Controls as well as cross-functional teams under CB Strategy & Planning (S&P) Org and will be responsible for:
- Provide oversight, support and monitor all aspects of project finance and project financial reporting including data mapping, data quality/integrity testing, analytics and data governance.
- Manage strategic financial controls forums as required and build partnerships with stakeholders including CB Finance, EPMO Project Controls, Project Delivery Teams, and other support functions.
- Meeting KPIs for Project Financials and meeting established Finance timelines within the monthly cycle
- Acts as a subject matter expert for Project Financials & Forecasting Accuracy best practices; proactively identifies opportunities to improve reporting and/or drive the use of analytics.
- Actively seeks and evaluates opportunities for increased efficiency through automation and works with key stakeholders to implement changes as appropriate.
- Ability to design and develop/enhance innovative reporting solutions using various tools. Power BI is an asset
- Provides support and coaching to Project Managers and other key stakeholders as required, to ensure project financials are managed in a robust and controlled manner
- Respond to ad-hoc investigations, inquiries, data, and report requests as assigned
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education / Experience / Other Information
- Minimum education level of a University Degree in Accounting, Business or Finance
- CFA/CPA is a plus
- 5+ years experience working in the financial reporting ideally in Financial Sector or Banking industry is preferred, preferably within Finance, IT, or Project Management.
- Strong knowledge of end-to-end Project Life Cycle and Software Development Lifecycle
- Exposure to stakeholder management across highly matrixed organizations
- Expert knowledge of MS Excel, MS Access and VBA
- Proficient experience visualizing/presenting data for stakeholders using data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau
- Strong knowledge of data management, aggregation and analysis techniques
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, and experience with presentations
- Strong business acumen, planning and organization skills
- Flexibility and adaptable to rapidly changing environment
- Ability to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines
- Strong work ethic, continuous improvement mindset with a can-do attitude
- Strong problem-solving skills
