Job Purpose

The incumbent is key member of the RMIT - Application Development – Market Risk Management team within Risk Management Information Technology.

 

The incumbent must have knowledge of financial instruments, ranging from derivative products to foreign exchange, including market data and conventions, valuation methods, risk management methodologies and models including best practices, performance measurement.

 

The incumbent must be a customer oriented individual with a track record of initiative, learning and applying new skills quickly and communicating effectively with team members, technical staff and users.

 

The incumbent must also possess an understanding of current IT practices (SDLC), systems development techniques, including requirements specification and testing methodologies, real time analytical and formal modelling tools and keep current with rapidly changing technology. 

 

Key Accountabilities

  1. Provide business and technology support to Global Risk Management (VAR application), including new and existing products, ad hoc queries and user training. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that management is kept informed and that problems and issues are escalated appropriately.
  2. Resolve complex, multi-faceted problems to meet the business needs of Global Risk Management, by applying their financial and technological knowledge to the design of methodologies, models, and/or systems solutions.  This may involve rapid prototyping, with requirements and solutions developed on an iterative basis that provides interim deliverables until a final production solution is created.  This includes conducting research and analysis, accurately and clearly defining user requirements and processes, and liaising with the users.
  3. Participate in the systems implementation process by defining business requirements and processes, assisting with developing test strategies and test cases, performing testing, defining user procedures and workflows, developing conversion and implementation strategies, verifying conversion, providing user documentation, providing user training, and providing post-implementation support.
  4. Work closely with the development team responsible for building out the technology solution for the enterprise Market Risk System.

  • Knowledge of the Bank’s products and operational processes & controls
  • Knowledge of requirements / design methodology - detail oriented, analytical  and capable of  investigating complex  / technical issues and provide alternative solutions, project methodologies including SDLC
  • Good communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Excellent team player by working with cross-departmental business & IT stakeholders 
  • Highly motivated and committed, capable of working in a dynamic environment with aggressive timelines, multiple work streams running in parallel.
  • Experience with SQL, Unix, Shell scripting, Java/C++, Python and RiskWatch.

 

Education

  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Engineering, Math/Statistics or a degree with strong emphasis on computer science
  • Graduate Degree in Mathematical Finance, Finance or another business or Computer Science related degree – is a plus
