The Senior Mainframe Developer is responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and support of Commercial Lending applications. The successful candidate will work closely with business partners, project teams, and technology stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions that support critical lending operations.
This role requires strong technical expertise in mainframe technologies such as COBOL, DB2, JCL, VSAM, a solid understanding of banking processes, and the ability to contribute throughout the full software development lifecycle and production support. 


Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

•    Design, develop, test, and implement enhancements to the commercial lending systems.
•    Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
•    Participate in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and post-implementation support.
•    Deliver high-quality, maintainable, and efficient code in accordance with enterprise standards.
•    Perform impact assessments and provide effort estimates for project and production support activities.
•    Support modernization and continuous improvement initiatives within the Commercial Lending technology portfolio.
•    Investigate and resolve production incidents in a timely manner.
•    Participate in on-call support rotations as required.
•    Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventive solutions.
•    Support audit, compliance, and risk management activities.
•    Participate in disaster recovery, resiliency, and BCP activities.
•    Collaborate with Business Analysts, Solution Architects, QA teams, and business stakeholders to deliver technology solutions.
•    Participate in project planning, estimation, and technical design discussions.
•    Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to team members.
•    Contribute to documentation, knowledge transfer, and operational readiness activities.
•    Identify opportunities to improve application stability, performance, reliability, and supportability through engineering best practices, automation, and operational excellence.
•    Promote engineering best practices, automation, and operational excellence. 

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:


•    University degree, college diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
•    5+ years of application development experience in mainframe environments.
•    3+ years of production support, incident management, and problem management experience in mainframe environments.
•    Strong experience with:
•    o COBOL
o    JCL
o    DB2
o    IMS DB  
o    VSAM
o    CICS
o    Endevor (or equivalent source code management tools)
•    Experience with Bitbucket, CloudBees Jenkins, or equivalent source control and CI/CD platforms.
•    Experience with batch processing and online transaction-based systems.
•    Experience supporting Lending, Loan Servicing, Loan Origination, or similar Banking core applications.
•    Experience integrating mainframe and distributed/cloud-based applications.
•    Experience with REST APIs, MQ, event-based integration, or middleware technologies.
•    Experience using tools such as IBM ADDI, Github Copilot.
•    Experience with Agile/Hybrid delivery methodologies.
•    Knowledge of regulatory, audit, and security requirements within financial services.
