The Senior Manager, Development leads a team of IT professionals to provide technology guidance, project delivery and product support for the Smart Automation COE.  The Senior Manager Development and Operations is responsible for supporting the development and production operations teams, driving team efficiency, removing roadblocks, and evolving the end-to-end product while leveraging processes which are in accordance with Agile principles and methodologies. 


  • Manages and oversees the team (direct and indirect reports) and the Development of RPA, RDA smart automations across the enterprise and owns the framework and approach to develop and deploy automations.
  • Manages and oversees the teams (direct and indirect reports) responsible for deploying, supporting, monitoring and maintaining the Smart Automations in the production environment
  • Supports the Directors in overall relationship management of the Smart Automation program and key partners in functions and business units for program development and deployment
  • Ensures scheduled delivery milestones are met and technology solutions are in compliance with the SA CoE best practices and Roadmap as well as Bank standards and/or external regulatory standards
  • Provides guidance to the teams on how to leverage Agile/Scrum practices and values
  • Supports a collaborative, trusting and safe environment where open communication can pave the way for faster removal of any impediments and where mistakes represent learning opportunities, with an emphasis on problem solving.
  • Provides coaching to development and production support teams and ensure a continuous improvement culture fostered through regular retrospectives of project implementations.
  • Participate in improving the teams’ development and support practices, to ensure sustainability, security, and efficiency of the code base
  • Supports the implementation and operationalization of new technologies and innovative automation solutions such as NLP, Chatbots, Deep learning and other AIs for next gen personalized consumer products and solutions at scale for all our global businesses
  • Collaborate with partners on the intake team and business leaders to resolve problems and implement changes that continuously improve our deliverables, approach, deployment cycle, timelines, playbook and best practices
  • Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including senior executives across the Bank to support the achievement of deliverables and overall targets/objectives
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team


Education / Experience


  • Post graduate degree in computer science, business, math or engineering related discipline is desirable, along with 8-10 years of practical experience in development and production support / operations environment
  • Experience leading technical teams of 10 or more
  • Disciplined in development methodology and familiar with software development technologies and concepts
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Strong aptitude for problem solving
  • Strong project management skills, able to multi-task and manage concurrent projects using Agile SDLC principles
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, coaching and motivational skills
  • Strong and demonstrated ability to build lasting relationships with key stakeholders
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to a dynamic environment, make quick and sound decisions under pressure
  • Must be reliable, pro-active, results-oriented, customer-focused and attentive to details
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills in order to deliver projects in a timely manner and deal with conflicting priorities and tight deadlines
  • Experience with formal change control and defect management disciplines
  • Understanding of core banking processes and systems
  • Familiarity with DevOps is an asset
  • Experience leading remote teams is an asset
  • Banking experience is an asset
