Purpose of Job:

 

The Product Manager is responsible for:


•    Monitoring and maximizing the revenues, profitability, and growth of Canadian Banking Business Deposit Products
•    Supporting sales and service, training and maintenance for the assigned products and ensuring the products are competitively positioned in the marketplace in terms of functionality, pricing and that delivery is in-line with the strategic direction of the product line.
•    Leading or participating as a member of small, medium and large project teams.
•    Assisting in the development of various initiatives for all Business segments. 
•    Ensuring that appropriate requirements are created.
•    Managing the products throughout the product lifecycle, including the creation of business cases and working closely with the marketing department to ensure any marketing or communication supports the product's positioning and the Bank's overall strategy and goals.


Major Accountabilities:

 

1.    Product Management and Business Planning
•    Contribute to annual strategic and business planning
•    Analyze and implement pricing strategies to ensure a reasonable rate of return and a sound competitive position 
•    Prepare and review News Items, Business Net Announcements, Manuals, Job Aids, Relevant resources and training materials and any other communication for projects or other business changes
•    Provide ongoing support to staff by answering inquiries and assisting with complaints and problem resolution
•    Ensure that operational and systems problems related to product are resolved

 

2.    Research and Market Analysis
•    Identify, research and analyze potential new products/features/enhancements 
•    Analyze and monitor existing product features, functions, key performance indicators, and competitiveness
•    Assess product demand to help determine key issues and opportunities; recommend specific actions
•    Research market, industry and competition banks/financial institutions regularly to anticipate changes in customer needs and future directions
•    Arrange for/oversee market research and surveys when necessary 

 

3.    Product Design and Development
•    Create or refine policies to facilitate product sales while ensuring risk mitigation 
•    Prepare proposals, financial analytical models and business cases based on sound financial principals and analytics
•    Execute business plans and the implementation of both new product development and product enhancements 
•    Work with diverse departments to ensure projects deliverables are on time and on budget

 

4.    Marketing
•    Assist in the preparation advertising and promotional materials including advertising campaigns and brochures 
•    Arrange for production of materials and co-ordinate distribution
•    Ensure sales materials are current and effective 

 

5.    Monitoring and Measuring 
•    Monitor product performance monthly and quarterly against objectives by designing, developing and maintaining reports for key performance indicators (e.g. sales, retention, profitability, revenues, costs, market share)
•    Contribute to business forecasting
•    Identify and assess potential cost savings to increase product profitability
•    Monitor project results and implement changes when needed, tracking lessons learned for future initiatives

 

6.    Managing Partner Relationships
•    Participate in status meetings
•    Identify opportunities that will benefit the product group, and the business segments Identify profitable segments and devise programs/products to tap into those markets
•    Collaborate in joint initiatives, driving any deliverables on the product side

 

Education/Work Experience/Designations:

 

•    University degree preferably in business, or relevant business experience
•    Product management and marketing experience
•    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, proven project management ability and strong problem identification and resolution skills
•    Attention to detail while maintaining an eye on the “big picture”
•    Self-motivated, efficient, able to take initiative and work independently with minimal direction
•    Ability to work under tight deadlines and conflicting priorities, and react quickly to resolve business problems to meet deadlines
•    High level of flexibility to adapt quickly to business environment undergoing constant changes
•    PC Windows & Microsoft Office literate with excellent skills related to Business Planning
