The Product Design Director leads and oversees Product Design for Shared Journey’s for Digital Banking in Canada ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

Is this role right for you?

  • You will lead and drive a customer focused culture throughout your team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • You will be responsible to driving Product Design across our Shared Journeys which include: Security & Authentication, Help & Search, Chat, Communication Orchestration and Consumer Protection.
  • You will drive the strategy, vision and design of these banking experiences with the goal of delivering world class discovery, learning, onboarding, security and communications on digital experiences and roadmaps that tie back to the big picture.
  • You collaborate with the Product, Engineering, Delivery, Analytics and other key communities to conceptualize usable, consistent and intuitive experiences across multiple platforms and devices.
  • You will collaborate to make our customer’s experience useful, engaging and effective while supporting our business goals and considering market context, industry and market trends, customer feedback, metrics, usability findings and technology constraints.
  • You will oversee a team of Product Designers who are tasked to produce compelling, data-informed designs to illustrate concepts iteratively through sketches, site maps, conceptual diagrams, presentation design, user flows, wireframes, high fidelity mock-ups and prototypes.
  • You will direct and guide this team in understanding long-term roadmap and key wins to help guide prioritization through performance reviews, 1-on-1 meetings, and performance and development discussions.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. 
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.
     

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed?

  • You have a minimum of 10 years of experience designing software products. At least 5 of them should be building and developing high-performance design teams in fast-paced organizations (or equivalent demonstrated ability to inspire/coach designers).
  • You have a thorough understanding of human-centered approach and methods to design.
  • You are a leader that exercises flexibility and openness, with the courage to defend unpopular points of view when they add value for the customer or the business.
  • You are committed to getting things done and have the willingness to immerse at the executional level when necessary.
  • You are passionate about changing the way people bank; and have a willingness to live in the future and build what’s missing.
  • You are an expert at delivering performance feedback (recognizing strong performers and coaching under performers).
