<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Job Purpose:

<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Scotiabank has embarked on the journey to modernize both development practices and tools. One of the main areas of transformation is the public cloud and the various platform technologies that support both development and operations on the cloud. The aim is to provide a streamlined process and framework which will allow the development teams to focus on building business logic.  We are looking to build our development team with influencer, makers, creators and industry leaders who will drive us forward.


<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">The role of the Principal Cloud Engineer operates within the Cloud Engineering team. This valuable member of the team will be responsible for creating platform components and services for the broad enterprise use. 

<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">We are looking for someone who will work closely with other Cloud Engineers, many different security teams in the bank, network teams, infrastructure teams and other development/engineering teams in the bank to design and develop the technical solutions for enterprise cloud platforms.


<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Key Accountabilities:

  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Design, manage, and maintain cloud services and components to enable safe enterprise-wide use of public cloud offerings.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Design, implement, and re-factor pipeline and infrastructure code.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Participate in design discussions focused on scalability and design and implementation best practices.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Work with other lead engineers and architects on breaking-down, scoping, and estimating tasks.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Participate in planning and retrospective sessions, attend stand-ups, etc.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Be able to build and operate the highly available and scalable software and infrastructure.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Provide mentorship, peer review, and code review.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Lead a product/service and define functions or features for cloud platforms.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Provide level 3 production support.


<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Functional Competencies:

  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Proven experience in cloud development (Google GCP and/or Microsoft Azure).
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Strong development and infrastructure experience, delivery history and breadth of language experience (Java, Python, Ruby, .NET, other)
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Knowledge and understanding of Cloud Native Platforms and container and micro-services technologies (PCF, Kubernetes, GKE); domain expertise in cloud platform features and capabilities.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Experience working with relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Understanding of CI/CD.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Full understanding of software development life.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Extensive experience in Agile/Product/Architecture.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Ability to solve ambiguous and typically novel problems that require the effort of several engineers and organizational alignment; experience in delivering scalable, enterprise-level software system solutions.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Full stack experience in product development.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Experience in technical leadership of medium to large sized technical teams in delivering production solutions.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Strong communication skills, both written and spoken; of specific importance the strong communication to a technical audience.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Knowledge of software design patterns, and security considerations.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Attention to details, high standards for quality.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Desire to learn, grow yourself and your team.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Passion for driving teams towards high performance and a deep pride in quality craftsmanship that delights users.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Writing and maintaining related documentation.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Agile/Product/ Architecture •Ability to be an effective influencer on technology direction / an effective evangelist.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Helps recruit + groom technology leaders and future leaders. 


<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Education/Experiences:

<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Bachelor (equivalent or higher) degree in computer science or engineering/mathematics discipline
