The Role
This is a challenging and key position that requires an eager, self-motivated, highly organized, efficient, and detail-oriented individual with strong accounting and financial acumen. The incumbent will be responsible for the preparation of financial statements and associated notes for the Bank’s pension plan entities. In addition, the incumbent will assist with the preparation of the Bank’s quarterly and annual report to shareholders, which will include preparation of select notes to the financial statements. The position will also assist with monitoring of regulatory and financial reporting developments, related to the pension entities and the Global Bank, as well as reviewing peer bank financial disclosures. The position reports to the Director, Statutory Reporting.
Financial Accounting & Reporting is a unit within the Chief Accountant's department of Global Finance.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Preparation of the financial statements for the Bank’s Canadian and US pension plan entities. The incumbent must research new and relevant accounting standards and regulatory guidelines impacting the pension entities to ensure the disclosures meet regulatory requirements and accounting standards.
- Preparation of all working papers required for the financial statements and associated notes, as well as any working papers required by External Auditors in support of the annual audits. This will require regular communication with the Pension Trustee as well as other groups in the Bank including the Pension department and Total Rewards to obtain the data required to prepare the working papers.
- Coordinate external audits of the pension entities ensuring that all queries raised by the External Auditors are responded to promptly and in a professional manner.
- Assist with the preparation of the Bank’s quarterly and annual reports which will include preparation of select financial statement notes and MD&A disclosures, as well as leading the consistency check exercise for the Annual Report.
- Monitor accounting and regulatory developments from the IASB, OSFI, SEC and other regulators and assess any impacts to the Bank’s disclosures. Assist with disclosure benchmarking to peers across the industry.
- Ad hoc projects and requests as required (e.g. preparing presentations for senior management on quarterly disclosure changes).
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:
- Post secondary education in business, finance or accounting.
- CPA designation (or working towards the same) is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of Peoplesoft EGL and OBI is an asset
- Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and some knowledge of regulatory guidelines applicable to the Bank.
- Strong Excel skills, experience with the development of macros is an asset.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Must be very well organized; must be accurate yet able to meet tight deadlines.
- Must be willing to work overtime during quarter-end periods
