The Role

 

The Manager, Global Banking and Markets (GBM) Communications will manage the development, implementation and coordination of Scotiabank GBM global and business line communications plans, ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Contributes to the end-to-end process (communications strategy, development, and delivery) for GBM global and business line internal and external communications by:
    • Working closely with business partners, senior management and other key stakeholders to develop, design, write, edit and effectively execute engaging communications aligned with GBM’s strategy, strategic priorities and vision.
    • Ensuring alignment of all communications with Global Communications and all-Bank plans and priorities.
    • Delivering regular communications requirements to support awareness of GBM’s performance, business wins and strategy execution.
    • Managing communications requirements and delivery across all applicable channels (e.g., emails, newsletters, sharepoint, town halls, events, office screens, social media, etc.).
    • Supporting town halls and other events including drafting agenda, presentation materials and speaking notes, coordinating logistics, and moderating events live to ensure seamless execution. 
       
  • Contributes to the effective functioning of the GBM Communications team by: 
    • Building effective working relationships across the team and with various business line and corporate function contacts.
    • Staying current and implementing communications best practices to ensure consistent and effective message delivery.  
    • Actively sharing knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team members.
    • Facilitating a culture of open and honest communication.
    • Actively participating and contributing to touch bases and team meetings, encouraging the generation of new ideas and approaches, and recommending process improvements.
       
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
     
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
     


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:

 

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or a related discipline; a post-graduate certificate in Public Relations is an asset.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant corporate communications or related industry communications experience. 
  • Financial institution experience, along with understanding of capital markets and corporate & investment banking is an asset. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in planning and implementing strategic communications programs (internal and external) including seeking, creating and championing creative communications 
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills (Spanish is an asset).
  • Understanding of communications channels and media.
  • Excellent project management skills with a high-level of accountability for the quality and timely completion of projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise to provide sound, actionable communications counsel to senior management and support business line strategy and teams. 
  • Media relations and social media experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of the financial services marketplace with a solid understanding of Scotiabank’s competitive positioning within those markets.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of business-related software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Desktop publishing and video experience is an asset.
  • Accurate and detail-oriented, with excellent analytic and creative skills. 
  • Strong planning, time management and organizational skills; ability to multi-task across many projects simultaneously and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction, but with regular reporting and updates.
  • Discrete ability to recognize and appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.
