The Global Wealth Management Finance department provides financial management and analytical insight to the Global Wealth Management Executive Team and Business Line Management across three major areas: Canadian Asset Management, Canadian Wealth Distribution and International Wealth Management. 
 
The Finance Manager, Canadian Wealth Management, will be a member of the Financial Planning & Analysis team reporting to the Senior Manager. The incumbent will be responsible for consolidating and analyzing reported P&L results (regularly scheduled and ad hoc) and creating and refining financial forecasts for Canadian Wealth Management at the consolidated, subsidiary and sub-business line levels. The role will also involve analysis on key variances in monthly P&L reporting, identifying key drivers in close collaboration with Business Line finance teams.

The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing and managing profitability, forecast and strategic growth models for the ScotiaMcLeod Full-Service brokerage (SMFS) and other business lines as directed. The Manager will be responsible for providing the analysis required to support strategic and business initiatives undertaken by the business unit. Projects are highly complex, multi-faceted, high profile and often executed within tight timeframes
 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage the Canadian Wealth Management consolidated monthly and quarterly financial reporting, quarterly forecast and Annual profit plan processes.  Create and maintain excel-based tools for Canadian Wealth Management consolidation process and financial reporting, including developing spreadsheets for ad-hoc analysis of key drivers in historical reported results and forecast.
  • Coordinate the development and preparation of Finance reports for the IIA Toronto business line and responsible for monitoring results against appropriate performance measurement criteria and key business metrics:
    • •Various Net Interest Income, Operating Expense, P&L reporting and analysis
    • • Manage the Forecasting and Planning model - update monthly / quarterly actuals for various products, FTP rate & Net interest Income/Margin analysis
    • • Monthly revenue, expense, and NII variance analysis
  • Design, develop, automate and maintain profitability models and management reports for the business unit, to drive and support decision making for Head Office (primarily Finance and Sales Management), Regions and Branches.
  • Responsible for/ key participant in project management pertaining to the introduction of new services, products and processes designed to increase the profitability or efficiency of management practices; this includes:
    • • Creative input, in-depth analysis and innovative thinking  
    • • Understanding of business drivers and key success factors
    • • Design of complex financial models and conceptual scenarios
    • • Crafting and presenting recommendations to various levels of Senior Management
  • Supports the Finance team in the information gathering process and analysis for strategic and tactical projects as requested by Senior Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Global Wealth Management Business Line finance teams.
     

Experience / Educaiton:

Undergraduate degree in Business, Accounting, Economics or a quantitative discipline
Preferred candidates have a CGA, CMA, CFA or MBA designation

Functional Comptencies

  • In-depth knowledge of brokerage services and operations (1-2 years’ experience)
  • Knowledge of Oracle Business Intelligence (OBI) and PeopleSoft
  • Access Database knowledge is an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel including complex formulas and functions
  • First-rate analytical skills
  • Strong customer service attitude
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to deal with all levels of management
  • Self-driven, results oriented and able to deliver within rigid deadlines
