Purpose
We’re looking for a top technical and analytical individual capable of extracting value out of our large and disparate data sets. You will influence the direction of the business by leveraging our data to deliver insights that drive decisions, evolution of our products and the way they fit into Scotiabank’s ecosystem. Additionally, you’ll help streamline and simplify the metric reporting needs for our operating cadences such as helping to optimize dashboard content, monthly business reviews and provide analytics support to all areas of the business (Sales, Distribution, Products, Finance, Actuarial, Audit & Compliance etc)

The Manager, Reporting and Insights is responsible for delivering dashboards and insights that enables stakeholders in the Insurance Canada team to monitor & manage sales performance, business activities and results efficiently and effectively based on timely and value-added reporting. The incumbent leverages subject matter expertise on data, database architecture, application design, reporting and analytical tools to provide timely and accurate reporting by collaborating and providing solutions to multiple business partners. The incumbent works with IT, Enterprise Data warehouse and other internal and external data providers to provide sound data infrastructure for sales reporting, portfolio management and analytics. The incumbent is also responsible to develop and automate dashboards to support in value-add sales opportunities and for other key stakeholders


What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the creation of daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting of business results to senior management and other stakeholders within the Insurance team including Sales, Distribution, Finance, Actuarial 
  • Development of KPI packages/dashboards including Executive Reporting to meet the needs of the business.
  • Work closely with incumbent’s Sr. manager and other business partners to provide timely and actionable insights on business performance vs. plan and/or other benchmarks.
  • Automate and develop MIS & Reporting of results of the Insurance Business using multiple databases and mainframe. Ensure optimal processes are established to produce timely and accurate reports on financial metrics for senior management.
  • Lead integration of new data feeds through new product launch, emerging technologies or other business strategies/initiatives ensuring timely availability of information for reporting and/or analytics.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders in the Insurance department to plan and develop MIS to support information need for the business – e.g. financial, adjudication, channel, customer behavior reporting.
  • Work closely with data warehouse and IT teams to manage development of analytical infrastructure comprising of databases, data infrastructure and analytical tools to provide sound infrastructure for reporting, portfolio management, analytics, segmentation and statistical modeling. Ensure data enhancement initiatives are appropriately prioritized and implemented on time and budget.
  • Ensure all systems and analytical infrastructure used for reporting and analytics have accurate information and are available to business users with minimum downtime. Work closely with IT, data warehouse or other internal/external partners to resolve issues around data accuracy or systems availability.
  • Lead automation of reports on an ongoing basis to increase productivity, efficiency and accuracy of MIS ensuring business stakeholders are minimizing time spent on repetitive or manual tasks.
  • Engage in high impact technology projects to provide subject matter expertise with respect to data architecture, systems integration and application design. Ensure integration of new advanced analytical tools into the analytical infrastructure.
  • Continuously acquire and enhance knowledge of business/product strategies, reporting tools, technical processes and advanced analytical tools/methodologies to best provide business solutions to all key constituents.
  • Effectively manage and prioritize multiple business initiatives, projects and ad-hoc reporting needs with business stakeholders and/or external partners/consultants.

 

What You'll Bring: 

  • Degree in Computer Science, Finance, Economics or Statistics
  • MBA (Finance or Marketing) - preferred
  • Bilingual English - Spanish desired
  • 5+ years experience in Analytics or MIS/Reporting
  • 5+ years experience in programming, application development and/or data warehousing
  • Detailed experience in Python, SQL, SAS, Unix, Mainframe
  • Strong working knowledge of Power BI, Tableau
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency with building models and data infrastructures - data mining, data profiling, modeling, cleansing, enriching as well as extract, transform, load (ETL) solutions and scripting
  • Strong communication skills essential with clients, vendors and management
  • Strong prioritizing, planning, analytical, presentation, project management, people management and relationship building skills
