Purpose:
The Manager, Retail Mutual Funds Issues Management supports the effective execution of the Issues Management framework for Scotia Securities Inc. (SSI) and Tangerine Investment Funds Limited (TIFL), both CIRO-regulated Mutual Fund Dealers. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Retail Mutual Funds Issues Management, the role provides hands-on support in the intake, validation, coordination, tracking, and reporting of issues, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies, and governance standards.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
• Own and execute the day‑to‑day operation of the Retail Mutual Funds Issues Management framework, ensuring issues are accurately assessed, tracked, and reported across SSI and TIFL.
• Manage a centralized issue repository, overseeing intake, validation, ongoing monitoring, milestone tracking, and closure of multiple concurrent issues.
• Partner with stakeholders across Wealth, Canadian Banking, Operations, and Business Risk to support effective and timely remediation, balancing competing priorities and dependencies.
• Supports Senior Manager Retail Mutual Funds Issues Management with the management and governance reporting, dashboards, and summaries and escalates material risks or delays with analysis and recommendations.
• Contribute to business initiatives and projects, supporting planning, scheduling, resourcing, risk assessments, and cost‑benefit analysis to ensure initiatives are delivered effectively.
• Supports with ad-hoc and ongoing risk related processes and other enterprise or business risk programs, ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent execution.
• Operates in alignment with Scotiabank’s Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles.
• SSI is a CIRO regulated dealer with $70B in AUA and approx. 1 million clients
• The team supports approx. 5,000 advisors/BCOs across 4 distribution channels in Canadian Banking, Global Wealth Management, Global Client Experience Centre and Online/Mobile
• The incumbent works with leadership teams across SSI, Scotia Financial Planning and Canadian Banking Retail Investments to oversee approx. $30MM in SIP spending on strategic initiatives
• The Business Controls and Retail Mutual Funds Oversight team has over 100 FTE
• Lead/participate in a number of issues and initiatives at the same time.
• Recommendations & projects may address an array of issues, topics and involve a number of individuals across the Bank. Delivery and reporting of research projects and other strategic initiatives varies with each project/initiative and issue resolution requirements.
• Competing priorities and conflicting deadlines are common and require strong planning and time management skills & judgement
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:
• Experience (typically 3+ years) in financial services, risk management, compliance, audit, operations, project governance, or a related control or oversight function
• Exposure to or interest in issue management, regulatory compliance, operational risk, or governance frameworks is strongly preferred
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and sound judgement
• Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to navigate differing perspectives and drive issues toward resolution
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise, and executive‑ready materials (e.g., dashboards, summaries, presentations).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, (Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI) for analysis, reporting, and presentations.
• Exposure to systems such as IBM OpenPages (GIMS) or similar issue and risk management tools is an asset.
Work Arrangement:
Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. Limited travel domestically.
