Manager, Payments Innovation and Strategic Planning - Retail Payments (Toronto, ON)

 

The Manager, Payments Innovation & Strategic Planning contributes to the Retail Payments strategy and delivery by connecting market insight, early‑stage innovation discovery, and disciplined execution planning. The role also drives the execution domain’s funding, governance, and portfolio reporting to ensure Retail Payments delivers to its strategic roadmap and plan.

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will: 

  • Retail Payments Strategy – Strategic Insights, Roadmap & Planning:
    • Conduct ongoing structured analysis of industry trends, competitive insights, partner developments, and regulatory shifts across retail payments landscape to support strategic planning.
    • Support the work packages to maintain a consolidated Retail Payments Strategy that articulates our vision, strategic priorities, and roadmap & plan.
    • Support ongoing payments backlog prioritization and alignment across Retail Payments in alignment with D2D, Cards, Digital, and other partner business lines.
    • Support Product Increment Planning to translate strategic direction into sequenced deliverables and cross domain dependencies.
    • Prepare strategic materials to enable clear decision making by senior leadership.
  • Payments Innovation – Discovery, Opportunity Framing & Early Stage Planning:
    • Contribute to shaping the early discovery and opportunity framing for priority innovation areas
      • Bill Pay Transformation
      • Agentic Commerce
      • Stablecoin readiness
      • Payment switching
      • Open Banking enabled payment flows
    • Lead the discovery deep dives and partner with cross functional teams to validate customer pain points, value hypothesis, feasibility and viability
    • Support the development of initiative charters with defined KPIs, scope / features and business cases for sequencing into the execution roadmap.
  • Execution & Governance – Payments Domain Operations and Portfolio Management:
    • Lead Domain setup and operations including consolidated business cases, VRC submissions, QBR preparation, ongoing governance orchestration, and benefit realization tracking across Retail Payments initiatives in the domain.
    • Manage consolidated Retail Payments portfolio reporting, covering KPIs, OKRs, initiative status, release progress, risks, and overall portfolio health across all products and domains.
  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. 

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Have post-secondary education in business or finance-related fields
  • Bring professional experience in the Banking, FinTech or Consulting industry, with knowledge of the banking and payment landscape
  • Have 2+ years of experience in payments, product management, strategy or consulting (considered an asset)
  • Thrive in a fast-paced challenging business environment and consistently deliver results despite ambiguity and competing priorities
  • Demonstrate the ability to translate strategy and concepts into execution - from market insight and opportunity framing through planning and delivery
  • Influence with authority, facilitate productive group problem solving, synthesize insights through strong critical / analytical thinking, and demonstrate exceptional planning skills
  • Bring exceptional written and presentation skills, and the ability to create high‑quality materials (strategy decks, business cases, plans, dashboards) that support senior decision‑making
  • Are highly proficiency in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) with a strong focus on structured storytelling and insight‑driven reporting
  • Are an independent thinker and self-directed executor, with a strong learning mindset and passion for building customer‑centric solutions and trusted relationships

Working Conditions
