The Role

 

Supports Model Risk Governance in Canada ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
The Manager, Model Risk Governance is responsible for the execution and management of strategic projects by ensuring that the business needs are accurately captured and analyzed to support the development/implementation and maintenance of model risk governance tools (i.e. SAS MRM). Additionally, this role under the guidance of the model risk governance unit ensures the regulatory and BAU model risk governance activities are delivered against plan.

  • Collaborate with Model Risk Management teams and other project stakeholders to gather and validate business requirements, corroborate impacts, associated risks and recommend solutions in agreement with SME, Vendor and technology teams to support product implementation
  • Analyze business processes and identify process improvements to support the implementation of the model risk governance tool (i.e., SAS MRM, IBM OpenPages)
  • Conduct testing, quality assurance (UAT) and post implementation reviews to ensure project success
  • Maintain the business configurations of the solution and do a periodic review in line with standardization and optimization. Be an advocate of best practice by virtue of learning and exposure
  • Support the development of governance procedures necessary to maintain and manage tool (from Admin perspective)
  • Support the development of user training manual for all roles and responsibilities across the model lifecycle. (e.g.., user guides, live training sessions/walk-throughs) 
  • Support the ongoing business as usual model governance activities to ensure the enhanced processes stemming from regulatory requirements are complied to 
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
  • Supports an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics or other relevant field
  • Excellent MS office skills, particularly in Office, Excel, Access & Visio. Knowledge in share point, process automation and documentation considered an asset.
  • 2- 4 years of progressive experience in product development and change management preferably in the banking or financial industry
  • Prior experience in a project environment and familiar with project life cycle management
  • Prior experience in system operational support and handling system change requests, governance and controls
  • Experience working in Agile environment considered an asset
  • Prior experience in working on SAS products is a nice to have 
  • Proficiency in English (Both Oral and Written) & demonstrated cross-cultural relationship management and experience
  • Flexible and open, able to work in a highly collaborative and continually challenging business environment.
  • The ideal candidate must be capable of demonstrating critical thinking skills and creative problem solving.
