The Financial Planning & Analysis team is responsible for the regular preparation of P&L forecasts and other financial projections, incorporating all components of the income statement, as well as average asset and liability growth by business line. The group’s responsibility also includes the analysis of trends, variances, and components of all these categories, and the preparation of standard reporting packages (e.g. Monthly Management Reports, Quarterly Management Reports, annual Profit Plan) as well as providing other insightful information and actionable recommendations for executives and key stakeholders. Forecast and reporting responsibilities include quarter-end reporting of actual results, monthly forecast updates, annual Profit Planning, annual 5-year Strategic Planning updates, as well as other ad hoc request and deep dives. The Manager, Forecasting has primary responsibility for the preparation of and review of monthly and quarterly actuals reporting to senior management, including non-interest revenue and balance sheet analysis. The manager would also be reviewing forecast submissions from the business lines and the Other segment to ensure accuracy, and expected to work closely with our business line partners in improving the forecasting process.
The Manager, Forecasting would also be leading all aspects of USD corporate position reporting. This includes preparing the quarter-end corporate position report as well as quarterly forecast updates and producing reports for Group Treasury and Senior Management. The manager would also be involved in the preparation of FX analysis on the all-bank forecast as well as actuals based on key assumptions as requested by Senior Management. The manager will also participate in various other profit planning and forecast responsibilities as well as providing back-up to the senior manager and performing other ad hoc analysis as required. The manager must be capable of implementing change, maintaining strong and supportive relationships with key Treasury and business line management personnel, ensure smooth, timely and relevant changes to forecast models, present information clearly and concisely and prepare regular accurate reporting under tight deadlines.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
- Preparation and review of monthly and quarterly actuals reporting to senior management, including non-interest revenue and balance sheet variance analysis on actuals, forecast, and Plan.
- Review the business line and All Bank submissions for quarterly forecast, and annual Plan, ensuring that the submissions are correct, identifying any significant variances between current and previous submissions, and preparing written commentary on variances and trends.
- Provide recommendations to executive management on improvement opportunities and to help achieve key Bank performance targets.
- Provide leadership in the development, reporting and analysis of the Bank's USD corporate position; assess requirements for changes to the USD corporate position and forecast reporting methodologies and procedures, the process for collection of data, and execution of appropriate maintenance/enhancement of models to improve reporting.
- Undertake analysis and provide insightful reporting and communication to senior management on the Bank's USD corporate position. Liaise with management to identify areas of improvement as well as opportunities where foreign exchange P&L impact can be reduced.
- Download actual and forecast balance sheet data from financial reporting systems and/or excel spreadsheets into the USD corporate position model, execute reconciliation process and complete all reporting requirements.
- Provide the Bank's USD revenue forecast to Group Treasury Finance for hedge designation purposes and provide periodic updates on changes to the USD corporate position.
- Report the quarter-end USD corporate position exposure limit utilization to Global Risk and Senior Management.
- Assist senior manager as required in the maintenance of business line forecast reporting and other key models.
- Support ad hoc reporting and analysis, continuous process improvement and the implementation and usage of analytical tools (i.e. Alteryx, Power BI, etc.).
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
- Post secondary degree in Finance and Accounting with a minimum of 5 years banking experience.
- Accounting or post graduate designation preferred (CPA, MBA, and/or CFA).
- Highly developed analytical and quantitative skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills to convey key messages to senior and executive management.
- Thorough understanding of management and financial accounting concepts.
- Good knowledge of components of the balance sheet.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately to meet tight deadlines and to function with autonomy.
- Sound knowledge of key individual product characteristics and businesses of the Bank.
- Strong analytical skills to identify and evaluate trends and other financial information, and to make recommendations to senior Global Finance leaders.
- Strong inter-personal skills in dealing with all levels of management.
- Strong technical skills, including Excel skills to update, enhance, and develop new models; and Powerpoint skills to convey key messages and charts in report presentations to senior management.
- Knowledge of the existing Bank systems (EGL, OBI, Hyperion) considered an asset.
- Familiarity with Anaplan, Power BI, Alteryx considered an asset.
- Sound accounting knowledge to understand accounting performance measurement targets.
