Title:  Manager, Global Finance, Testing & Quality Assurance

The Manager, Global Finance Testing & Quality Assurance will be responsible for performing testing and quality assurance activities to assess the design and operating effectiveness of Global Finance processes and programs. While ensure that activities performed by Finance comply with governing regulations, internal policies and guidelines, the incumbent will also contribute to the overall success of Global Finance by identifying control weaknesses and making recommendations to improve or enhance current processes and controls. 

The Manager will have interactions with a broad range of Finance professionals and stakeholders and will be expected to influence and educate them on source documentation requirements, process improvement and internal controls related to regulatory and financial reporting. 

The position is initially responsible for supporting the design, documentation, and execution of testing strategies for regulatory reporting controls, financial reporting controls, and source validation / transaction testing. 


Key Accountabilities: 


  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Responsible for the design and execution of strategies and testing plans to verify the effectiveness of internal controls over regulatory reporting, as well as the adequacy, completeness, and validity of regulatory reporting deliverables.
  • Conduct interviews and walkthroughs with stakeholder partners to gain a thorough understanding of units, processes, controls, and outputs under review.  
  • Develops and executed appropriate testing procedures, the nature and extent of which adequately and sufficiently support engagement scope, objectives and deliverables. 
  • Document testing activities and results within testing workpapers to adequately support conclusions of control design and operational effectiveness.  
  • Analyze test results and prepare testing engagement reports to highlight test results and internal control weaknesses to key stakeholders, within established timelines. 
  • Review outstanding regulatory reporting issues, follow-up to ensure recommended corrective actions are appropriate and are on track for timely implementation.  Perform issue validation and closure activities, as needed. 
  • Understand and apply the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values and its Code of Conduct while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. 


Education / Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with sound knowledge of technology
  • CA/CPA designation or other relevant professional designations.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas: Audit, Testing, Internal Controls, Financial Reporting and/or Regulatory Reporting of financial institutions. 
  • This position is highly complex requiring a results-oriented individual who has a high degree of understanding of banking businesses, internal controls / audit disciplines, knowledge of regulatory and financial reporting, balanced by an intrinsic understanding of the business lines. 
  • Must be able to understand business processes, evaluate the system of internal controls and support the integrity of regulatory and financial reporting on target, on time, and on budget. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in the context of a finance department of a large banking organization 
  • Excellent people skills are required to influence department and external stakeholders and to deliver results under tight deadlines and multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills are essential to effectively drive change across culturally diverse workforce. Excellent English written and verbal communication skills are also necessary.
