Title:  Manager, Global Event Management

The Manager, Global Event Management is responsible for independently designing and executing creative client events and internal conferences. For larger scale events, the incumbent works as part of a team under the direction of the Senior Manager, Global Event Management.



Research suppliers, develop client strategic objectives, event concepts and cost proposals and execute events upon approval

Develop strategic partnerships with internal business lines, understanding their needs to provide a program suitable to Scotiabank’s clients

Manage all projects to assigned budgets by optimising expenses, negotiating multiple supplier contracts and submitting invoice payments, expenses and visa bills for chargeout in a timely fashion

Contribute to Scotiabank’s revenue by effectively servicing business lines’ client marketing effort

Appropriately manage people resources – both internal and external suppliers, business line representatives and department co-workers

Develop gift/ giveaway ideas for events, and co-ordinate ordering, imprinting and shipping arrangements

Oversees workload of Event Coordinators pertaining to their specific event

Provides input and creative ideas on aligning events/conferences with business line marketing plans

Assists the business line in marketing the event/conference to top potential and existing clients



Given the demanding clientele and the volume of events that the Event Team co-ordinates (approximately 150 annually), the incumbent must be able to juggle ever-changing priorities in a high-pressure environment.  Due to last minute and unique requests, well-honed time management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure are also a requirement.  The high profile nature of our clients and events require strong attention to detail and highly-developed interpersonal skills.  The incumbent must have strong negotiating and contract management skills for contracts ranging up to $1,000,000.  Extensive and current knowledge of event venues, entertainment options and contacts in the GTA, North America and International is also key, in order to meet constant demand from clients for new and unique event experiences.  This knowledge is maintained through participation in educational seminars, attendance at industry trade shows and regular site inspections of various venues.


In order to be successful in this role, the incumbent must be able to meet the following criteria:

Minimum of 8 - 10 years event planning experience

Must have specific industry designation  e.g. CMP or CSEP

Ability to independently manage and execute assigned programs

Strong client service focus

Ability to problem solve under pressure (e.g. time constraints, demanding clients, change in requirements)

Flexibility to work evenings and weekends

Ability to travel to off-site venues for the duration of an event


In addition, the Manager is responsible for compiling event budgets and ensuring the accuracy of the accounting submitted for his/her assigned events.  Familiarity with basic accounting principles, attention to detail and diligence with follow up, is required.  Strong problem resolution skills are a major requirement for success in this position.



The Manager position enjoys a large degree of autonomy, with responsibility for coordinating events from start to finish.  This position takes direction from the Senior Manager, Global Event Management and other internal BNS contacts as listed.  On a regular basis, the Manager must take direction from external clients of the firm, up to the CEO level of top 100 Canadian/ US corporations. 


The incumbent works in tandem with the business lines to make decisions regarding the budget, theme, agenda and location of events, while logistical decisions are made independently.  In troubleshooting situations/ on-site at a program or event, the incumbent must be capable of exercising judgment in absence of direction from the Senior Manager, Global Event Management or the business line contact.
