Purpose
The Manager, Business Risk Management will play a critical role in strengthening risk management practices and supporting business units across Global Wealth Management (GWM). This role will lead GWM’s first-line testing and monitoring activities, manage Audit and management self-identified issues, and support the governance and oversight of program initiatives.
Accountabilities
- Develop expert understanding of GWM business units (brokerages, asset management, estates and trust, private banking, mutual fund dealers, and International Wealth Management), including operational processes, regulatory obligations and risk governance.
- Support the development of the annual monitoring and testing plan.
- Support the execution of the annual monitoring and testing plan in accordance with methodologies, enterprise requirements and standards.
- Maintain comprehensive reporting on findings, with actionable recommendations and insightful analysis and commentary.
- Responsible for ensuring open issues resulting from monitoring and testing plans are tracked to completion.
- Support the Senior Manager on oversight and governance of program initiatives, such as Operational Resilience and Model Risk, and execution of the policy and framework adoption process.
- Provide continuous oversight of Audit and management self-identified issues, to ensure GWM businesses appropriately address issues and closure packages are comprehensive and submitted in a timely manner.
- Support ad-hoc, special and/or focused reviews as necessary, as well as other duties and projects as assigned.
- Develop and foster relationships with stakeholders, control functions and business partners to enhance business line effectiveness.
- Champion a customer-focused culture and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Persist in enhancing the program with an objective of continuous improvement.
- Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education/Experience
- University degree, preferably in Finance, Commerce or Business Administration with 5+ years of experience in financial services.
- Strong understanding of GWM’s business units, products, services, operations, systems and practices.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Knowledge of quality assurance and control testing processes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of Scotiabank’s regulatory programs, regulations, and internal frameworks and policies impacting banking operations.
- Ability to develop strong working relationships with numerous cross functional support areas and business line executives.
- Attention to detail required, including the ability to produce deliverables that have executive visibility.
- Proven track record to successfully manage multiple and competing priorities.
- Power BI experience is an asset.
