Reporting to the Senior Manager, Enterprise Regulatory Programs, the Manager will enable adherence by business lines to a number of Global Compliance enterprise policies by building strategic relationships with key stakeholders across the Enterprise, maintaining these policies, and providing advice and support to our stakeholders, while ensuring all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Contribute to oversight and provide advice and counsel to business line 1Bs, Compliance, and other relevant stakeholders on the Competition Law Compliance Policy, Global Cross-Border Business Activities Policy, Global Voice and Electronic Communications Policy, other relevant policies (“ERP Policies”), and other regulatory initiatives and relevant documentation under the purview of the Enterprise Regulatory Programs team (“Enterprise Regulatory Program Initiatives”), as well as related compliance obligations.
  • Support the Senior Manager and Director on enhancing oversight activities as well as compliance program elements in relation to the ERP Policies, particularly Competition Law.
  • Assist with drafting, reviewing, and updating policies and procedures, training materials, presentations, operating models, and other documentation, as well as building or enhancing compliance program elements as needed in relation to the ERP Policies and other Enterprise Regulatory Program Initiatives.
  • Conduct and/or support internal reporting, issues management and escalation, regulatory change management, recordkeeping, and other deliverables in relation to ERP Policies and Enterprise Regulatory Programs team responsibilities.
  • Build effective working relationships and work collaboratively with business counterparts, first line of defense (1B teams), risk, and other stakeholders relating to the ERP Policies and other Enterprise Regulatory Program Initiatives.
  • Perform responsibilities under and facilitate adherence across the Enterprise to standards, processes, and other governance requirements for ERP Policies and Enterprise Regulatory Programs Initiatives, as applicable.
  • Engage in quality assurance activities as defined by the Senior Manager for ERP Policies.
  • Support a high-performing team by sharing knowledge among team members and fostering and promoting a positive team spirit.
  • Support responses to testing, audit, or regulatory inquiries or findings and facilitate remediation of any identified deficiencies of the team with respect to the ERP Policies or other Enterprise Regulatory Program Initiatives.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:

 

  • BA or Postgraduate degree or LL.B with a minimum of 3 years of relevant combined experience in Compliance, Legal, or other Control Functions (Audit, Risk, etc.), with the following skills and attributes:
    • Experience in interpreting regulatory rules is an asset.
    • An understanding of Competition Laws is an asset.
    • Experience in drafting and updating policies and procedures is an asset.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Supporting the maintenance and updating of Enterprise-level policies owned by the ERP team that support all countries, regions, and business units.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of regulatory requirements and monitoring advancements in regulatory initiatives.
  • High standards of performance, confidentiality, integrity, timeliness, and efficiency must be maintained at all times.
  • Sensitivity and tact must be especially evident in the performance of compliance functions.
  • The incumbent operates independently within guidelines, policies, directives, and established precedent.
  • Unique, exceptional, or potentially contentious issues are referred to/escalated to management.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities with competing timelines.
  • Strong ability to prioritize, track, and communicate progress on deliverables to stakeholders and management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products, including but not limited to: Co-Pilot, PowerPoint, Word (including macros), Excel, Visio
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and investigative skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
