The Manager Enterprise Business Investments supports the overall mandate of the Enterprise Business Investment (EBI) team with focus on the International Banking portfolio. The overall mandate of EBI is to facilitate and provide (i) investment prioritization, (ii) business case review, (iii) support project governance, and (iv) support portfolio management, reporting and analysis for the Bank’s strategic investments.  The EBI team performs a critical function which ensures the Bank’s resources are used effectively to meet financial targets, and that aligns with the Bank’s strategic priorities to support decision making by senior and executive management.   

 

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

 

  • Review of new business cases seeking funds & author critical analysis and commentary of Business Cases
  • Ensure business cases are in compliance with accounting standards and internal BNS policies including but not limited to reviewing and validating capitalization of internally developed software.
  • Evaluate and approve other project governance requests, including but not limited to such as Project Change Requests, PIR, Rebaseline, ensuring all activities are following governing regulations, internal policies and that procedures align with authorized funding plans.
  • Act as Finance relationship manager (Finance gatekeeper) for business cases; leading socialization processes and meetings for critical business cases approvals, providing guidance to partners on financial policies, guidelines and Bank practices and identifying and communicating financial-related issues.
  • Prepare and present complex financial data and information in a meaningful, concise and user-friendly manner for management.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships and coordinate with key stakeholders including: DPMOs, Project Teams, Audit, and other key partners to ensure strong communication, transparency, and sharing of best practices
  • Maintain OP status in PeopleSoft
  • Support the transformation and evolution of the EBI team Centre of Excellence, working together and with cross-functional teams within the Enterprise Portfolio Management Group, where new trends and process improvements are evaluated/implemented, for business cases analysis, presentations and trainings that improve oversight of the Bank’s project portfolio, and approval processes become best-in-class.
  • Maintain processes to meet / exceed all project governance standards as developed by the Divisional and Executive Project Management Offices and Internal Audit
  • Continuously challenge existing processes and standards within and outside the team
  • Drive a customer focused culture to deepen relationships across the Bank
  • Identify and lead process improvement opportunities.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests as required

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

 

  • University degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting. Professional accounting designation (CPA, CFA) or MBA is considered an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish are a must have
  • Strong Project Management skills. (PMP designation is preferred)
  • Knowledge of financial and management reporting standards applied to banking issues (e.g. capitalization of internally developed software), and understanding of the business planning process, dealing with accounting systems, budgets, and internal controls.
  • 5 years demonstrated work experience in a finance, accounting, project management, or analytics environment, ideally in the financial services industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Banking Services & Operations within Scotiabank, leveraging broader Bank relationships (preferred)
  • Strong conceptual, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills.  Must be able to manage and interpret large amounts of data, and use sound judgement in analysis, interpretation, and presentation of findings.
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
