Title:  Manager, Enterprise AML Risk Assessment Program

As part of the Enterprise AML Risk Assessment function within the AML Risk Global Policy and Standards team, the Manager, Enterprise AML Risk Assessment Program manages the execution of the Enterprise AML/ATF and Sanctions Risk Assessment for multiple Business Line assessable units across the Bank’s geographic footprint. The Manager is responsible for providing central coordination and oversight over the execution of the Risk Assessment and conducting quality assurance to ensure adherence of the enterprise standards and methodology. Additionally, the Manager will work closely with stakeholder groups within Business Line AML teams and Global Sanctions and provide support with respect to the risk assessment methodology, related system and tools, procedural and guidance documentation.  


Key Accountabilities 


•    Supports the Enterprise AML Risk Assessment team with the documentation and maintenance of the Enterprise ML Risk Assessment (EMRA) and Enterprise Sanctions Risk Assessment (ESRA) Methodology (EMRA/ESRA Methodology), and related tools, procedural and guidance documentation.

  • Central coordinates the execution of the EMRA/ESRA across all assessable units and Business Lines through the risk assessment tool.
  • Manages relationships with various stakeholder groups within Business Line AML teams and Global Sanctions & Screening while providing support with respect to the EMRA/ESRA Methodology related guidance.
  • Conducts quality assurance on inherent risk and program effectiveness surveys completed by the Business Line assessable units using a risk-based approach in order to ensure adherence to enterprise standards and the EMRA/ESRA Methodology.
  • Collaborates with AML Data to ensure data lineage requirements are effectively embedded and reviewed as part of the inherent risk assessment process to ensure adequate quality and accuracy.
  • Coordinates with the Financial Crimes & Operational Risk Engineering (FCORE) technology team to ensure user access requests and updates to the risk assessment tool are addressed in a timely manner in accordance with program expectations.
  • Facilitates alignment relating to the mapping of control ownership between the enterprise centralized control units and Business Line AML teams as part of completing the program effectiveness assessment.
  • Supports the annual refresh of the EMRA/ESRA Methodology to ensure alignment with emerging regulatory developments and global industry practices.
  • Collaborates with AML Models and Analytics team to calibrate the weights and thresholds associated with inherent risk factors based on risk assessment data and in alignment with the Bank’s ML/TF and Sanctions risk appetite.
  • Stays abreast of emerging regulation in Canada and globally to identify developments and trends that may have an impact on risk assessment methodologies.
  • Maintains awareness of regulatory expectations and global industry standards with respect to risk identification and assessment.
  • Drives a customer focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Pursues effective and efficient operations of the incumbent’s respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values and Code of Conduct, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF and conduct risk.
  • Additional accountabilities as required.


Experience / Education:


  • 3+ years related AML and/or risk management, compliance, or audit experience 
  • Undergraduate degree in business administration, finance or related field.
  • ACAMS designation or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with business and technical stakeholder groups
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft SQL Server, Power BI, and Microsoft Power Platform
  • Solid understanding of regulatory compliance matters linked to AML risk assessments
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong stakeholder and program/project management skills
  • Solid understanding of regulatory compliance matters linked to AML risk
  • Prior exposure to a control environment in risk management, compliance, or audit
  • Working knowledge of business environment supported by a strong understanding of policy and regulations
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
