Purpose
The Manager, Data & AI Business Operations is responsible for establishing and maintaining the foundation that enables scalable, secure, and reliable data and AI capabilities within Global Compliance.
Operating under the architectural direction of the Senior Manager, this hands-on role owns AI/ML platform implementation, infrastructure governance, and cross-layer data support. The incumbent will serve as the team’s primary role in infrastructure and Business Operations, while contributing to sustainable data and AI platform practices.
Accountabilities
- Own the reliability and day-to-day operation of the AI/ML environment, including VM configuration, access management, resource monitoring, and issue resolution
- Establish and maintain practical Business Operations controls for analytics and ML code, including versioning, release management, and environment consistency.
- Support and troubleshoot workflow orchestration and scheduling tools (e.g., Airflow), including dependency management and failure triage.
- Define and implement operational standards (logging, runbooks, monitoring, backup/restore awareness) to support stability and audit readiness
- Partner with Enterprise IT and Security to ensure environments align with internal technology and security requirements.
- Contribute to scalable Business Ops practices that enable repeatable, sustainable model development and deployment.
- Translate approved data architecture into detailed technical specifications, including source-to-target mappings and transformation logic.
- Provide hands-on support for physical data modelling and data structure design within the data consumption layer.
- Review and validate ETL and pipeline implementations to ensure architectural alignment, data integrity, and downstream usability.
- Support data governance by implementing data quality controls, lineage documentation, and traceability practices.
- Demonstrates awareness of the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in day‑to‑day decisions and activities.
- Drives efficient and effective operations aligned with Scotiabank’s Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles, while maintaining strong day‑to‑day controls across operational, compliance, and conduct risk.

Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years of hands‑on experience in AI/ML platform support, DevOps/MLOps, infrastructure governance, or related technical domains.
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience supporting CI/CD pipelines, development environments, and operational controls.
- Experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow) and collaboration with IT teams on ETL and data pipeline implementation.
- Solid understanding of AI/ML development workflows, model lifecycle management, and advanced modelling techniques with underlying mathematical fundamentals.
- Experience in regulated environments and exposure to data governance concepts considered assets.
- Hands‑on technical problem solver with learning agility across infrastructure and data domains, operating effectively at both platform and data layers.
- Clear, structured communicator with a strong customer focus, ownership mindset, and attention to operational stability and control.
