About the Role:
 
We’re seeking a Manager, Credit Support to lead day-to-day execution across our Private Banking credit documentation function. You’ll oversee a team of Credit Support Officers, ensure high-quality loan documentation aligned with approved decisions, and partner cross-functionally to resolve complex execution challenges. This role is pivotal in translating credit approvals into accurate, timely, and compliant documentation, while identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls, and client experience.
 
 
In this role right for you? In this role, you will:

Team Leadership & Workflow Management

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of Credit Support Officers (CSOs) responsible for loan documentation preparation.
  • Allocate workload, set priorities, and uphold execution standards to meet Private Banking SLAs.
  • Handle escalations from the Private Banking field through to completion and ensure clarity on requirements.
  • Review team tasks for accuracy and completeness within established guidelines.
  • Liaise with Legal, Compliance, GRM, ACE, and Banking teams on documentation and execution-related questions.
  • Provide coaching and feedback; participate in training program development and scheduling.
  • Act as a trusted subject-matter resource to ensure consistent policy interpretation and application.
  • Escalate priority issues to appropriate management as required.

Operational Strategy & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to enhance the loan documentation process and reduce rework.
  • Proactively surface problems and risks prior to implementation.
  • Compile data, observations, and root-cause insights related to documentation errors, delays, and policy friction points.
  • Deliver structured findings and recommendations to the Senior Manager, Credit Support to enable enterprise process optimization, policy updates, and standardization.
  • Partner to pilot and implement improvements impacting workflows, controls, and execution quality.

  • Contribute to a high-performing, collaborative Head Office team with strong client service.
  • Build effective relationships across business lines and corporate functions.

Functional Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of Private Banking operations, sales environments, and credit underwriting processes.
  • Familiarity with the broad Wealth Management offering (e.g., Scotiatrust, Scotia Asset Management, ScotiaMcLeod) and International Private Banking.
  • Thorough understanding of systems supporting Credit Structuring and Private Banking.
  • Experience in Process Mapping/Business Architecture (including related tools/software).
  • Advanced business analysis, analytical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Sound judgment with the ability to handle complex, non-standard issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface across departments and external parties.
  • Superior time management and prioritization skills.

Experience & Credentials

  • University or Community College degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in Credit Structuring or Commercial Banking.
  • Strong understanding of lending policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Awareness of business trends and external factors (economic, technological, social, legal, political) affecting credit viability.
  • Fluently bilingual in English and French (verbal and written) is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Power BI and strong PC skills.
  • Proactive, self-directed, and comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

 

Working Conditions

 

This is a primarily office-based role with hybrid flexibility. The position involves extensive PC use for document preparation, and regular review of manuals, circulars, handbooks, and reports. You may encounter tight deadlines and service commitments across internal and external projects.
